I was recently tagged by Morgan from Morgan’s Milieu to join in the what home means to me tag. Thank you for the tag.
So, what does home mean to me? I actually found this quite difficult to answer.
It’s more than a house, more than bricks and mortar, but so many of the answers I came up with where clichéd. I suppose things become clichéd because they are true though so maybe it’s not so bad.
I decided to compile a list of everything I think of when I think of home:
Home is…
…always having somewhere to go, somewhere you will be welcomed, even if you have made a mistake.
…a place where you can 100% be yourself with no fear of rejection.
…the smell of coffee, home cooking and fresh laundry.
…family and that handful of close friends that feel like family.
…warmth and cosiness. PJs, fire on and being all snuggled up with a good book or movie.
…where you feel the most comfortable.
…so much more than the place you live. It’s the part you take with you when you move to a new address.
…a feeling rather than a place. A warm glowing feeling, the feeling of acceptance, of belonging somewhere.
It’s funny, because prior to this tag, the concept of home isn’t something I’ve given a lot of thought to. The term is generally used to refer to the place you live.
After giving it some thought, home isn’t a building, it’s the people in the building. The memories you make together and the laughs you share. It’s enjoying the good times and supporting each other through the bad.
It’s also something that I think can vary massively from person to person, maybe for some people, it truly is bricks and mortar, for some it will be their home town, for others their children.
Home is whatever you want it to be.
Thanks again for the tag Morgan, it really made me think and I greatly enjoyed writing this post. I apologise for the delay too.

“a feeling rather than a place. A warm glowing feeling, the feeling of acceptance, of belonging somewhere.” — Absolutely! Loved your post!
Home is where pieces of your heart lie with people you loved and laughed with.

Thank you 🙂
Yes, that’s exactly it – the happy memories of people you love!
Katie (Growing Up KaterTot)
I couldn’t have answered this question better myself! The popular phrase, “Home is where the heart is” comes to mind. My heart belongs to those I love, and without them, my home wouldn’t be a special place. It’s the memories made and those yet to come that make a home special.
Thank you so much for the tag, Deb! 🙂 xx

Yes, home is definitely where the heart is, even if that place isn’t your house. You’re welcome 🙂 x

Katy (What Katy Said)
You are so right about it being something you can take with you if you move. My mum moved after 21 years but her new house still feels like home as she brought everything with her that meant something. Everything else is bricks and mortar xx

Thank you 🙂 That’s exactly it – your mum left her house but brought her home with her! x
