Being happy is something we all want, and often it means different things to different people. Happiness is not instant and the definition is always changing, but there are ways to make yourself happier in the moment.
I don’t think there’s a one size fits all answer to happiness. It often depends on what we want, how close we are to getting it and often outside factors that we can’t control.
I do believe that being happier is often a state of mind. Think about what you do have rather than what you don’t have.
Here are 10 things that will make you happier:
10 Ways To Be Happier
- Learn to forgive. Holding a grudge serves little purpose and will just make you miserable
- Learn to adapt. Fighting changes that are outside of your control is another way to be miserable. Adapt to them, embrace them and feel a weight lift from you.
- Appreciate the smaller things. Instead of worrying about not having the perfect life (who does?), concentrate on all of the good things you have, however small they may be.
- If something is really making you unhappy, change it. Switch careers, end the relationship, do whatever it takes.
- Accept that you are responsible for your own happiness. It’s nice to find someone who wants to make you happy, but ultimately, no one can make you truly happy or unhappy but yourself.
- This might sound crazy, but act like you are happy. Smile, even if you don’t feel like it. Before you know it, your mood will have lifted and you will feel happier.
- If you are really unhappy, identify what it is that is making you this way (seek professional help if necessary). Once you know specifically what it is, you can then find a way to deal with it.
- Cut negative people out of your life. You don’t need friends who make you miserable.
- Make time for fun. We are all so busy these days that we often struggle to fit things in. Often the first thing we look to cut is a hobby, or that half hour bubble bath. Don’t be tempted to cut out everything you love. Make time for yourself.
- For one day, every time you moan about something, or feel jealous because someone else has something you want, jot them down – in a notebook, on your phone, on a napkin – anything. At the end of the day, look back over the list and add two positives for each negative. If you do this often, not only will you see how much happier you can be if you focus on the good, you will also notice a pattern to your negative thoughts. Once you’ve identified it, make a conscious effort to not be in that situation.
There you have it – 10 easy ways to feel a bit happier every day.
Please note: this post is aimed at making the average day a little happier. If you feel really unhappy every day, or something big has happened and you don’t know how to deal with it, please do seek medical help. There is no shame and no weakness in asking for help.

Aww thank you, that means a lot 🙂 I really believe happiness is a state of mind and you can learn to be happy, just as being unhappy is often a learned behaviour
Michelle
I do all of these except the last one but I have learned to appreciate life and have learned to look at life from a completely different perspective now, a much more positive one. I had to cut a lot of toxic people out of my life but it has been so worth it. I have also learned to forgive people I never thought I would be able to forgive and I have written about it. Love your badge too Debbie *wink* Thanks so much for linking up with #manicmonday
