Time for my review of the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan, five of the books from February’s reading list.
I decided to do them as a group rather than do each one separately, so I am not giving any spoilers along the way. The review will cover the full series but I will make sure I don’t spoil anything so don’t worry if you haven’t read them all yet.

Blurb from The Back Cover
This is from the back cover of book one, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief:
Look, I didn’t want to be a half-blood. I never asked to be the son of a Greek God.
I was just a normal kid, going to school, playing basketball, skateboarding. The usual. Until I accidentally vaporized my maths teacher. Now I spend my time battling monsters and generally trying to stay alive.
This is the one where Zeus, God of the Sky, thinks I’ve stolen his lightning bolt – and making Zeus angry is a very bad idea.
My Thoughts on The Books
Rick Riordan brings the Greek Gods to life perfectly throughout this series. I am fascinated by the Greek God myths and the way the author brings them to life, each with their own personalities (good and bad parts) is brilliant.
Percy Jackson is a very likeable character, and you can’t help but feel for him when his entire life is turned upside down. As a character, he starts off as an unlikely hero, but as the story progresses, he really grows into the role.
In the first book, Percy discovers his father was a Greek God, and ends up at a summer camp for half bloods. He goes on a quest, along with a couple of new friends, to find Zeus’s missing lightening bolt and return it to him in time to stop a war of the Gods.
The story brings the Gods and some of the other favourites from Greek mythology, like the Minotaur to life in a way that grabs you from the very first chapter.
Conclusion and Rating
I think it says it all that I loved this so much I have just ordered the Gods of Olympus series and The Kane Chronicles series. 5/5

Book Lover's Christmas Gift Guide - My Random Musings
[…] I am a huge Rick Riordan fan. His re-workings of the legends of the God are fantastic. The characters really come to life, and Percy Jackson, a boy who never wanted to be a hero, is a hero we can all get behind. The books are funny in places and fast paced, making a great read.
