I looked at my planner for today’s post, and as I set about writing it, I realised I didn’t want to. Not that I didn’t want to write, just that I didn’t want to write that particular post at this particular time.
I was left with two choices – do a half hearted how-to guide that would be pretty much useless, or go off book. So here I am, just writing and seeing where it goes.
When I first started my blog, this was what I did everyday. I would open up a new post and just write about whatever was in my head at that moment. Long term, I could never sustain that kind of posting, not every day, but it’s nice to just ditch the schedule and write some days.
One of my goals on my blogging bucket list was to not worry if things didn’t turn out exactly as planned, and I guess doing this every now and again is part of achieving that goal.
I went off schedule – the world didn’t stop turning. No one would even know if I hadn’t pointed it out, and you know what – it feels good.
I’m not sat thinking “But what if no one reads it?” or “What if people do read it and they hate it?” I’m not worrying about stats or anything else, I’m just writing, because ultimately, that’s what blogging is meant to be about (at least for me).
If blogging is your main income, then I think stats are probably a lot more important, but even as a hobby blogger, I tend to get hung up on them sometimes. It’s good to let that go now and again.
I will get back on schedule, and the post I abandoned today will be written properly when I am in the frame of mind for it. Today’s not that day and that’s ok.
If I really wanted to (which I didn’t, this has just occurred to me as I am writing this), then I could tie this into this month’s blogging theme by saying having a schedule can be important – and so can ignoring it completely when the mood takes you and just write for the pleasure of it.
Just to hear the clack of the keys and seeing your thoughts appear on the screen – unfiltered, unedited, real.
Maybe people won’t like it and that’s ok too. Not every person can like every post we ever write. Sometimes, it’s just fun to break the rules, even when they are only your own rules.

Little Miss & Mummy
I am relatively new blogger and tend to write things as they spill out of my head. Although I am just starting to use a planner to plan my future posts.
Is this a slippery slope? I hope I don’t become too tied up in stats because it the moment I’m really enjoying wiring my blog for me.
It’s nice to read that I’m not the only one like this.

Honestly, my planner is my life line with regards to blogging. It’s nice to know what’s happening when, but I think it’s important to also allow yourself to go off schedule when the mood strikes!
