Over the last few days, I’ve mentioned a few times that joining linkys is a good way to improve your blog traffic and to find new blogs to read.
I believe joining linkys can be beneficial at any point throughout your blogging journey, but right at the beginning, they are essential. They get your name seen, your posts read and the commenting can start to build up relationships with other bloggers.
Linkys: An Overview
If you have never joined linkys and have no idea how they work, Becky from Cuddle Fairy has written an amazing linky guide which you can read here. It tells you everything you need to know about linking your posts up and it’s really easy to understand.
Generally, one or more bloggers host the linky and you add your posts to it. Some bloggers say 1 post, some more. Some linkys are themed, some are general where you can add any post. Usually, the rules are that you comment on the host’s post and at least two others. Some bloggers specify which posts (eg the one before yours), others let you choose the ones that appeal to you.
It can be a bit tedious having to read a certain post if it doesn’t appeal to you, but put the effort in and leave a decent comment because the advantage is you are guaranteed the next person to link up will have to comment on yours – even if (shock horror) it doesn’t appeal to them.
Most linkys also require you to add their badge or a text link back to their post either in your post or side bar.
Make sure to read (and follow) the rules for each linky as they do vary slightly.
I always say that I would never tell another blogger what they should or shouldn’t do – here is an exception:
NEVER link dump.
It is rude to the host and the other people who link up and will soon be noticed. You don’t want to be remembered for the wrong reasons.
Linkys: Which Ones Should You Join?
There are a lot of options out there, some are huge linkys that get hundreds linking up, and the temptation is to only join those. Don’t write off the smaller ones. Some of them may have 20 people linking up, but those tend to foster a tighter sense of community and often you will get more interaction in these than the mega ones. It’s all down to trial and error – find the ones you enjoy the most and link to them.
Below are the ones I link to regularly if you are looking for some inspiration:
