Welcome to day six of the A to Z Challenge! My theme is 100 word (give or take a word or two) flash fiction on the darker side of human nature. I hope you enjoy.
Fear
Silently I creep. I am the night. I am the dark. I am the one you fear. The bogeyman in your closet is me. The banging noise you hear upstairs when you are home alone is me. I am your worst nightmare, your ultimate fear. I am the cause of your night terrors and the reason you jump at shadows. You can never out run me or hide from me. You will never be rid of me, nor can you ignore me. Silently I creep. I know no bounds and I will play with your darkest fears. I am your imagination.
For extended versions of the A-Z flash fiction pieces and some whole new stories too, download my book, Twisted Tales.

Yup. So true. My imagination does tend to run away with itself…
Mine too!
I’m relieved that the last line says “I am your imagination” instead of “I am your reality.”
That would have been a brilliant closing line!
Oh, neat twist! I was thinking we were talking serial killers again. 🙂
You’re really good at this.
Thank you so much 🙂 I daren’t do too many pieces on serial killers, people will be worried haha!
Absolutely. Imagination is both amazing and teriffying xx #atozchallenge
I totally agree! x
I like it. Reminds me that we can create the highest heaven or deepest hell for ourselves, in our own heads.
Thank you 🙂 Yeah, it’s amazing the different directions our own heads can take us in!
Oh yeah – imagination can be so tricky. Ever seen the short film “Lights Out”? (It’s not being turned into a full feature). That had me running for the next lit area every time I turned off a light for ages. 🙂

No, but from what you’ve said I would love it!
Ha, before I reached the end the word ‘imagination’ was already clearly in mind. I’ve always said there is no greater fear produced than the fear human beings create themselves. Nice work.
Exactly, that’s why I always think books are scarier than movies! Thank you 🙂
Yeah, my imagination can be pretty scary sometimes.!

Same here!
Thanks for visiting me
It is maliciously funny how we let our minds haunt us in the most creative ways! *winks* Loving your entries — adding you to my faves.

It is, our minds are wondrous things! I’m glad you enjoyed the story, hope to see you again soon 🙂
Nice post. Yes imagination can be a scary thing.
Returning the favour of your visit to my blog.
Thank you 🙂 It really can!
It’s amazing the things our minds can dream up, that’s for sure. And my ‘F’ word was ‘Fear’ also – how cool is that?!
Great minds think alike 🙂
