Welcome to day nine of the A to Z Challenge! My theme is 100 word (give or take a word or two) flash fiction on the darker side of human nature. I hope you enjoy.
Invisible
You would think being invisible would be pretty cool – spying on people, going places where you shouldn’t.
It isn’t. You have no effect, no voice. No one knows you exist. You only ever hear bad things about yourself, never good things.
Maybe as a super power it would be different, better. But in high school, being invisible sucks. The only time I’m not invisible is when they want someone to push around in the halls, or someone to torment.
They won’t see my revenge coming. But when they are laid bleeding, begging for mercy – oh, they will see me then.
For extended versions of the A-Z flash fiction pieces and some whole new stories too, download my book, Twisted Tales.
Let me know what you think in the comments 🙂

I think those folks better be scared!
Debbie, My Random Musings
Me too, I know I would be!
Geets
That was really a powerful one! And yes, it makes sense. If one would be invisible, there will be no existence at all and people will only talk bad about them. Sad but true!
Loved your take 🙂
Cheers
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you 🙂 Yes, on the surface, invisibility sounds good, but I think it would only be good if you could control it, otherwise it would be extremely lonely!
Aneesh
Really enjoyed this one.. 🙂
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you 🙂
Patricia Lynne
At first I thought you were going with a vengeful ghost.
~Ninja Minion Patricia Lynne aka Patricia Josephine~
Debbie, My Random Musings
No, but I like the idea of vengeful ghost though, there could be a definite story there!
Misha
Nice dark twist at the end there. 🙂
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you 🙂
Guilie Castillo
Creepy, Debbie… All those school shootings must’ve begun like this. Great job. I got chills.
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you, I’m glad it had that effect!
Cynthia
Hopefully, someone catches on to “Invisible’s” plans and the authorities are notified!
Debbie, My Random Musings
I would like to see Invisible get his/her own back by becoming a huge success (and keeping the creepy plans as a slightly unsettling fantasy), but I think that’s unlikely, given their state of mind!
John Holton
Every high school nobody’s dream…
Debbie, My Random Musings
Exactly!
Mary Burris
i wanted to have the power of invisibility at various times in my life. It could have come in handy a time or two..
Mary
Debbie, My Random Musings
You’re right there!
The Silver Fox

Did you ever seen the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode where a girl did turn invisible? I bet she got her revenge, too.
Debbie, My Random Musings
I didn’t, but yeah I would bet she did too!
Melissa Sugar
The victim of all the bullying and all the torment grows up and takes revenge and no one sees it coming. Very dark and disturbing indeed. This plays off the theme of some of my blog post themes – the ones where I touch on the villain’s wound. We often overlook the character arc of our villain. What makes him/her tick. What happened in their past that was so traumatic that it caused them to behave the way they do now. Why do they need to hurt others. This was a brilliant piece of flash fiction told from the POV of the villain.

Yes, I often find in books I read that the villain seems evil for no apparent reason. I like to know a bit of their past, and why they are acting the way they do. I actually felt a twinge of sympathy for the villain in this story!
J.H. Moncrieff
Reminds me of Columbine. Very chilling.
These are great, Debbie! I’m really enjoying them. Thanks for sticking with me when I was late getting back here.
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you, I’m glad you’re enjoying them. No problem, I love your theme 🙂
susan scott
Totally intriguing Debbie thank you … I want to go back and read your previous ones when there is more time … there’s nothing like a twist in the tale, reminds me of Roald Dahl and his brilliance in his adult stories …..
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you, I’m glad you liked it 🙂 I love Roald Dahl so this comment has put a huge smile on my face!
Natalia Pessoa
Reminds me of Carrie haha, love the end. I definitely felt like this at time during HS. (PS: I was very worried I wasn’t seeing I and J listed on the main A to Z page you have).
Debbie, My Random Musings
I think a lot of us felt this way at high school at some point, just most of us kept it as a fantasy! Oh, I forgot to update the page, thanks for the heads up!
Yvonne
I think some people better be scared, I know I would be!!! xxx
Debbie, My Random Musings
Lol, me too! x
Michelle
This actually reminded me of an episode in the first season of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer where she had to fight a girl who literally became invisible and used that invisibility to take revenge against her bullies, one being Cordelia who was Buffy’s frenemy, LOL! #anythinggoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
Another comment mentioned Buffy, I really should sit down and watch them, they sound like something I would enjoy!
wendy
Ohh I loved this one. At first I thought it was a ghost but I like this spin on the invisible theme. Those bullies better hide!xx #anythinggoes
Life Loving
Very revengeful. They’d better watch out!

maybe the bullies feel invisible at home and that is why they try to act tough at school, when really they are really lost. Sad for everyone #anythinggoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
That’s true. Everyone has their story which makes them act a certain way, just we don’t always get to see it
Mrs Tubbs
Oh, remind me never to p*** you off. Very scary
Debbie, My Random Musings
Lol, I assure you this is just fiction! I would be more likely to eye roll and walk away from all the drama in real life 🙂
Mimi Rose & Me
Oh what an eerie ending. #AnythingGoes
Nadine (@caringchaos)
Totally freaked me out! Im glad just fiction #anythinggoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
