Welcome to day twenty-one of the A to Z Challenge! My theme is 100 word (give or take a word or two) flash fiction on the darker side of human nature. I hope you enjoy.
Unloved
Unloved, alone, he sits and cries. Orphaned, unwanted. Is he so bad that the world can’t love him? How could the world be so cruel? It wasn’t his fault. He didn’t mean to kill them, not his mum and dad. He just wants them back. To feel loved again, wanted. Silently, he cries. The world looks on but doesn’t see. They don’t see the real him. The part that craves their love. Unloved he lives and unloved he will die. Trapped in the cycle of his own making, his own naivety. He thought it would be better this way. He was wrong.
For extended versions of the A-Z flash fiction pieces and some whole new stories too, download my book, Twisted Tales.

Um… He killed them? I… Yeah, I don’t have a response to that.
Debbie, My Random Musings
There’s not really much left to be said is there!
Deniz
Ooh, scary. You want to feel for the character but at the same time…you don’t feel safe around him, you know?
Debbie, My Random Musings
Yes I know exactly what you mean. You want to hug him but are scared he would be armed!
Haneen Ibrahim
Tsk tsk, this fellow needs therapy. Behind bars, that is.
Debbie, My Random Musings
Yes, that’s for sure!
Cynthia
Yikes! This person does not sound well.
Debbie, My Random Musings
I think it’s fair to say they have some issues!
Mary Burris
I. Just. Can’t… i laid my mother to rest last week. This is just too much for me to deal with. Hope you understand.
Debbie, My Random Musings
Of course I understand, I hope this hasn’t upset you
The Silver Fox
It’s odd when we consider someone else as a monster and to his or her perceptions, they’re just misunderstood.
Debbie, My Random Musings
Yes, its all about perspective!
Patricia Lynne
That is scary and tragic. =(

Debbie, My Random Musings

Kate Tunstall
I was initially confused as I’ve not heard about this challenge so wasn’t sure what I was reading! Powerful stuff!
#BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
On some of my earlier posts, some people didn’t realise it was fiction! They probably think I’m a bit of a psycho now lol 🙂 Thank you.
Faye-kaboodleMum
Ooh, such a conflicting little short story! found I felt sorry for him and then I didn’t… But by the end, it came across like a young boy who’s been neglected, acted upon his anger, and now regrets his momentary lapse of control. It’s quite sad really.
#bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you 🙂 What he’s done is so bad, but you can’t help but wonder what went so wrong in his short life to make him do something like this – it is quite sad.
Fi - Beauty Baby and Me
You’ve given me chills – this is very intense xx #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you 🙂
Annette, 3 Little Buttons
Chilling *gulps* and a bit worrying. Sounds like a scary character to be working on #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings

Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you 🙂
Tammymum
I think I would like to read more! I did like the comment someone left about needing therapy behind bars, made me chuckle. Excellent passage though, very deep and intriguing xx #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
I’m thinking of expanding on this one so watch this space! Lol yeah, that made me chuckle too 🙂 x
wendy
Soo..I’m freaked out! He killed his parents? People are probably way too scared to love him if that’s what he does to people who love him. Another great piece of writing xx #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
He did! But you have to question whether or not they did love him! Thank you 🙂 x
One Messy Mama
Very dark. Interesting character. Feel for the child. There must be reason behind his actions. Would be interesting to find out what that is. #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you 🙂 I’m thinking of expanding some of the stories and I think this will be one of them, so watch this space 🙂
Briony
I feel bad for him, clearly he needs some help though, a lot of help #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Yes, he does need help that’s for sure, but you have to wonder what went wrong to make a child do this!
Sarah
*gulp*
#BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
😉
Michelle
My first thought was “this child needs a hug and needs professional help” I am always a sucker for children though, even those who do such horrible things. Love your dark stories Debbie! #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
He is the character that has stayed with me long after writing the story. You have to wonder what he has been through to get to this point. He definitely needs a hug and some help. Thank you 🙂
Emma
really good writing Debbie. i enjoy yoyr a to z posts 🙂 #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you, I’m glad you’re enjoying them 🙂
Rainbowsaretoobeautiful
Oh dear.. Pretty sure this is not my kind of thing! #Bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thanks for reading anyway 🙂 The world would be boring if we all liked the same thing!
Catherine
But how do we know they didn’t deserve it? Just because he wants their love doesn’t mean that they loved him. They could have been addicts who abused him, but if its the only way he has ever been treated, it is the only thing he understands. I am sad for him.
Debbie, My Random Musings
That’s true, for a child so young to do this, you have to wonder why, and abused children still feel the need for parental love
Cheryl
Ooh mysterious! Yes he obviously did it, but you want to know why. I found it sad but intriguing. #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Yes, you have to wonder what would drive a child to this. This is definitely a story I plan on extending so watch this space 🙂 I kind of feel sad for him too!
Savannah
Scary! Things like this really make you question your moral compass.
On one hand, you feel bad for the character. Your sympathy seeps through as you imagine how he may feel, or what may have driven him to kill his own parents.
On the other, your heart sort of hardens at the word ‘kill’.
Very good piece! <3 #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Yes, I know what you mean. You can’t help but feel sorry for him, but you’re left wondering if he’s evil or if he was driven to it! Thank you 🙂 x
absolutely prabulous
I want to leave a comment to let you know I visited but I am just rubbish at analysing things like this even though I did an English Lit and Language degree!! It’s not you, it’s me lol. When’s the book coming out? 🙂 #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Lol, thanks for visiting 🙂 The book of short stories is planned for mid-June, the novel I’m not entirely sure yet but it’s actually finished!
Jo - Mother of Teenagers
Mysterious. I am intrigued to know more and will be definitely watching this space.
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you 🙂 I’m glad you liked it!
Agent Spitback
Gripping! It such a sad twisted tale, so much packed into so so few words. The word itself “Unloved” is such a powerful word by itself isn’t it? Turning this into a short story? #BloggerclubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you 🙂 It is sad and I agree the word itself is very powerful. I’m planning on publishing a book of short stories mid-June, and yes, this will definitely be one of the ones I’m expanding 🙂
Trista, Domesticated Momster
Karma is a bitch. Unless his parents abused him then they probably deserved it. Good writing Deb, as always :). And thanks for hostessing the #BloggerUKClub
Debbie, My Random Musings
It is, but you do have to wonder what happened to make a child do this. Thank you and you’re welcome 🙂
Bread
Awesome writing. I love your style. This is great. #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you so much 🙂
Mummy in a TuTu (@mummyinatutu)
Good writing and interesting. Definitely dark and I like the intonation in the sentence structure which bounces when read.
#bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you so much 🙂
Silly Mummy
It’s made me think of that killer whose name I can’t remember (helpful!). Brian something I think. He was about 18 or so, as I recall. Killed his parents & went on holiday. Very strange boy, odd reactions and responses to things, interesting but disturbing case. Believed to have personality disorder, but not mentally ill, I believe. #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
I haven’t heard of that – it would make a great true crime book! He sounds like a very disturbed boy.
Becky, Cuddle Fairy
Another freaky story! I cringe in preparation of reading these. You really know how to paint a picture with your words. #bloggerclubuk x
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you 🙂 You can relax a little now April is over lol! x
