I love holidays, I mean who doesn’t right? I’ve been to a fair few European countries, but I do sometimes think my country gets a bit neglected when it comes to holidays.
This is partly down to unpredictable weather and partly down to the fact that I love visiting other countries and seeing new parts of the world.
This year, however, my holiday is going to be a staycation in a seaside caravan park – Haven’s Blue Dolphin to be exact.
This got me thinking about the pros and cons of both types of holiday and I thought I would share some of the advantages of both types of holidays with you today.
Holidays: Abroad Vs Staycations – Abroad
- The weather is much more predictable – even if it rains a bit, it’s still usually a lot warmer than at home and the rain doesn’t tend to last as long
- You get to experience another culture
- You get to try new foods/drinks that you maybe wouldn’t have had the chance to do at home
- You get to see things, and visit places that you wouldn’t be able to at home
- You can visit Jettly and charter a private jet and really live the dream
Holidays: Abroad Vs Staycations – Staycation
- If you have young children there is less risk of them getting burned
- It is easier to plan last minute
- You don’t need a passport
- There’s no restrictions on luggage
- No language barrier
Overall, I think they both have their good points and their draw backs.
It used to be that a staycation was the cheaper option. Now, I think with the cheap flights available, and the bargains once you reach your destination (depending where you go of course), it often works out cheaper to go abroad.
I’m really looking forward to this year’s holiday – I’ve been to Haven a fair few times, although I normally go to Haggerston Castle, so it will be interesting to see how Blue Dolphin compares. I think I will miss the heat though.
Check back tomorrow when I share some places I’ve been that are well worth considering for your holidays this year and check back later in the week when I will share some holidays both home and abroad for under £1,000.
Where are you going for your holidays this year? Do you prefer to be home or abroad? Let me know in the comments 🙂

Holidays? Snort. I don’t go anywhere. Ever.

That’s not good 🙁

I try to visit a new place (local or abroad) every year. Local or abroad depends on my budget 🙂 I didn’t plan on a lengthy vacation this year but I’ve a work trip coming up to Cebu, Philippines that I may extend into a mini-break! I’ve never been to Cebu so am quite excited about that! 😀

Ooh, that sounds great, I’ve never been to the Philippines, I hope you have a great time 🙂

I’d always choose abroad for the sunshine but having said that we’re off to Haven Rockley Park this weekend!

Oh, sounds good, enjoy!

I enjoy a good staycation. Had one a couple months back, although, I spent the time thoroughly cleaning the apartment. I relaxed plenty though. It’s a small apartment. =)

It’s good when you’re in the mood for a good clean, glad you relaxed a bit too though 🙂

I love going on vacations and the place or country I love going to the most is Italy. There I plan to live out my last days. I love Southern Italy especially. As for staycations, I don’t care for them in particularly. Unless, I am going to be alone at home. Then I enjoy them because I can read and write without any disturbance. \

That sounds like a fab plan – beautiful place to live after retiring 🙂 Yeah some alone time is good for catching up on writing and reading

Me? Oh, my. I don’t travel much at all!

It’s a lot of money to spend if it’s not your thing!

It’s funny how the pros and cons of “staycations” change depending on where you live… The bit about “less chance of the kids getting sunburnt” made me laugh 😀 Because we live in the Caribbean, it’s not hard to convince us to spend holidays here. When we do go abroad, it’s mostly for family-related stuff—and even when it’s not, we tend to choose non-seaside spots. A change of weather—anything under 25C—is incredibly welcome when you live in a place averaging 30C year-round 😀
Great post, Debbie. Looking forward to the updates on your holiday!

Yeah, I think if I lived in the Caribbean I would be holidaying at home every year! I guess when you live in that sort of place though it gets boring the same as anywhere else! Thank you 🙂

Either way you get to spend time with your family!
