As part of my Over To You theme, I was asked by Annette from 3 Little Buttonsย about how to create a media kit and what you should put in it.
What Is A Media Kit And Why Do Bloggers Need One
A media kit is like your blog’s CV. It is an easy to follow document that highlights all your blog’s stats and achievements, plus a little bit about the blog and the writer.
It is used to send to brands you are thinking about working with to see if they feel you are a good match. Often, even when brands approach you, they will ask for your media kit. So even if you aren’t yet at the point where you are approaching brands, it’s worth having one ready in case it is requested.
What Should Be Included In Your Media Kit
I think to an extent this depends on what sort of brands you will be working with and your personal preferences.
However, there are some things that should definitely be included as standard:
Media Kit Essentials:
About Me/My Blog: This section should be a brief overview of who you are as a blogger, a little bit about what your blog is about, and a brief overview of your reader demographic. I did these as two separate sections, but you could do them as one. Be sure to include a headshot of yourself (or a little note about why you choose to remain anonymous if this is the case) and your blog’s logo.
Contact Details: Always remember to add your contact details. It doesn’t matter how good you are, a brand can’t work with you if they don’t know where to find you. Personally, I think an email address is enough, although a phone number is an option too.
Blog Stats: This is the section where you list your monthly views. I do this section as an average of my last three months as I think that shows a clearer picture. You should include your monthly page views and the number of unique visitors. If the brand wants anything more detailed like bounce rate, sources etc, they will ask. You could also include your DA here if it’s higher than 25.
Social Media: This section should show your following on your social media sites. You can list them all, but I personally think just the big four are enough (Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram). If you have a large following elsewhere, especially if it’s on a niche site relevant to the brand, then by all means include it. You can also provide links to your social media sites so brands can really get a feel for your personality.
What You Offer: This section is to tell brands what services you offer, for example, reviews, sponsored posts etc. I also have a little blurb here that says: “Want something you don’t see? Just ask! I am happy to provide custom made packages.” Sometimes, brands want something a little outside of the box. I would only recommend adding that if you are actually willing to consider suggestions.
Other Things You Could Include In Your Media Kit
Why Work With Me? This is your chance to really push your USP. What makes your blog special? Why should a brand choose you over the thousands of other blogs out there? Give the brand a reason to choose you. The easier you make it for them, the more likely you are to get a positive result.
Price List: You could include your prices here. I have a separate price list, but if you only offer one or two options, you could fit it in here.
Photographs: If one of your main selling points is beautiful photography, you could includeย a few of your favourite photos to showcase your work.
Links To Some Of Your Favourite Posts: If your writing style is very unique, it can be a good idea to include a link to some of your best posts.
Testimonials: If you have worked with brands in the past, you could ask them for a testimonial to display on your media kit to show other brands that you are a good bet.
Designing Your Media Kit – Some Tips
- I used Microsoft Word to design my media kit. It’s simple and easy to use and easy to update – remember, follower numbers and site stats will change so your media kit needs to be easy to amend. Canva is another good option, especially if you are adding a fair amount of images.
- Although I compared a media kit to a blog’s CV earlier in this post, that’s not true when it comes to design. Your media kit can be as unique and creative as you want it to be. I would advise you to stick with a clean, neat font though. You don’t want something that people struggle to read.
- The maximum length for a media kit (unless there are a lot of photos) should be two pages. I think one is even better if you can condense it down. Brands don’t want your life story – they want the main information presented in an easy to find way.
- Use your blog header and logo.
- Stick with your blog’s colour scheme. It will help with brand continuity.
- Don’t lie. It can be tempting to exaggerate your stats, but this isn’t a good way to operate.
- You can always say no. If a brand approaches you that you don’t want to work with – maybe they don’t fit your blog, or they are way under your price range – don’t be afraid to say thanks but no thanks. Be polite though, you never know when the PR will have your dream opportunity.
Thanks for the questionย Annette ๐

Media kit for a blog? Well, I guess if you have a successful blog. Never thought of doing this. (Maybe an author media kit for when I finish my book.)
Debbie, My Random Musings
I think it would definitely be a good way to introduce a book too ๐

Great tips! It is a must if you want to work with brands isn’t it. Think it is so true that e need to stick with things that suit our style, brands that our audience is interested in. Thanks for sharing these tips #anythinggoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you ๐ Yes, I think so too, otherwise our readers won’t want to read the sponsored content which sort of defeats the object
jeremy@thirstydaddy
I’ve had a handful of sponsored posts over the past year, but still haven’t taken the plunge to make one of these. I know I really should, it just seems like a much more intimidating undertaking than I know it really would be.
Debbie, My Random Musings
I was exactly the same – I put off making mine for ages. It’s really not that bad once you get started, I think it took me about two hours.

Great tips, I don’t have a media kit yet but should probably make one. I have had a fair few sponsored posts and reviews and have not once been asked about my stats/page views so I haven’t needed a media kit. I guess I should make one though as it will help if/when I start approaching brands instead of them coming to me. Will be saving this post for later ๐ xx #anythinggoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you ๐ Some brands don’t ask, especially if they have genuinely had a good look around your blog and can see you have engaged followers. It is definitely helpful for approaching brands yourself though so you can send them all your information easily x
Life Loving
Such a good post. I keep sitting down to put one together, but I keep getting distracted. I love designing things like this though, so maybe I’m putting off finishing it.

I really need to update my media kit! I use Canva which is nice and simple, but months when my stats aren’t as good I lose motivation to get on and update. ๐ #anythinggoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
I’m the same – it feels a bit disheartening when you have to change good stats for worse ones ๐

My media kit could do with a revamp – it is super basic. I tend to go on & on so it could end up being 3 pages if I let myself loose. lol Great tips & ideas here Debbie – pinning for later. #AnythingGoes x

This is really useful and I am glad that you shared it with us. I haven’t done one as I am not self hosted yet but when I get the time I will swap over and then having a media pack might be the next thing to get done.

I have never made a media kit. However, next year I am going to try and go to Britmums etc, so think I will need to do one for that. Will be bookmarking this page for future reference ๐ #AnythingGoes
