Today, I would like to talk a little about adult incontinence. It seems its another thing to add to the growing list of taboos, things we shouldn’t talk about. That’s not very helpful for the people it affects is it?
I was recently contacted regarding reviewing some incontinence pads to be used during and after pregnancy. As I’m not (and never have been pregnant), my first thought was that this particular review wasn’t for me.
The more I thought about it though, the more I realised that a large proportion of my readers are parents, so if I had the chance to share something with them that might help them, then why not?
It seems that its a subject many people don’t want to discuss. I can understand that to an extent – maybe people are embarrassed discussing something so intimate. But you know what, there’s already enough rules – enough “socially acceptable/unacceptable” topics.
This is something that can affect anyone, and in my opinion, its not something to be ashamed off. Maybe its something that will happen as you get older, maybe its something that will occur after childbirth, or maybe its just one of those things that could happen.
It can range from a little dribble when you sneeze to full loss of control.
Nowadays, especially for women, there is already enough pressure to look a certain way, act a certain way etc. Personally, I say screw that – be who you want to be. Wear what you want, look however you want, and don’t let the media tell you how you should look.
Do we really need the added pressure of not discussing something that is affecting us? Honestly, no, we don’t.
Incontinence isn’t something to be ashamed of. If this is something that affects you, give yourself a break. Especially if you’ve just given birth – think about what your body has achieved.
All that being said, no one wants to walk around smelling of pee, or have stains on their clothes. Perhaps there’s nothing you can do to stop the incontinence, but there are options for what you can do to feel comfortable and confident.
One such option is Hartmann Direct who offer a full range of incontinence products for all your needs. This company offers a full range of products for both women and men. They have a range of disposable pads, and a range of washable underwear with the pad built in. The pads and underwear come in a range of sizes and absorbency levels so you can find the right protection for you.
They also offer protection for your bedding and a range of skin care products.
They offer free delivery on orders over £40, and they promise discreet packaging, so if are a little embarrassed no one will know what you are receiving.
This website is fantastic. It offers everything you will need in one place. It is often not just about buying pads – its about keeping yourself feeling clean and hygienic too, so being able to order the skin care products at the same time as the pads is fab.
There is a huge list of FAQs if you need anything clarifying, and there is a fab “product selector” feature. You answer several questions, for example, your sex, the amount of leakage etc and it recommends the best products for you.
I have to say if I ever experience incontinence, Hartmann Direct will be one of the options I will be seriously considering.
Are you, or someone close to you, affected by incontinence? Do you have any tips or recommendations that could help others? Let me know in the comments 🙂

Yes, let’s put out in the open all the things that for years we’ve felt we needed to keep hidden. For why? Shame? The more we talk about it, the more we realize we have the same issues.

I totally agree Liz. There’s very little that you can be experiencing that someone somewhere isn’t going through too, and by talking about it, we remove the taboo and it can help people see they aren’t alone.

I have been using the IncoStress for my stress incontinence, women might want to give it a try. I found it worked better than pad because you stayed dry. Some women may want to give it a try.

Thanks for the recommendation 🙂

This is great. It’s about time more women open up about these all too common issues. Thanks so much for starting the conversation.

Thank you 🙂 I agree, the more we shy away from certain topics, the more taboo they become
