Blogger Spotlight: One Messy Mama

1 Firstly, tell us a little bit about yourself

 Hi there! My name is Jacqui, I hail from South Africa. Born and bred. We have 4 gorgeous, amazing and rambunctious children. We are constantly kept on our toes, and wouldn’t change it for the world. I worked as a teacher for 16 years before we immigrated to Michigan USA. I hold degrees in Education and Human Social Sciences. I have been a SAHM for exactly 10 months, and have felt every emotion in the book. Love it, dislike it, love it again 🙂 … 

2 What is your blog’s name and what is it about?

 My blog’s name is One Messy Mama. Which basically describes exactly who I am (in more ways than one). I am learning how to navigate around being at home full time, putting my career aside for now, and all that comes along with this new and exciting title. My blog is an open and honest reflection on this experience. For me there is no perfect way to parent. There are parenting fail moments and hallelujah moments. It’s one messy adventure! 

3 Why did you decide to start a blog?

 I decided to start blogging when I began to feel overwhelmed with all the “perfection” out there. Most of the blogs I had read were all about how to be the perfect parent. The patient mom. The loving mom. The playful mom. Etc. I grew tired of feeling like I needed to measure up to these “perfect” moms, and decided to share my journey. I was probably incredibly ignorant! I love the idea of my children reading my blog one day and realizing how many grey hairs they gave me, but also how much I adore them 🙂 (since blogging I have found many other blogs that say it like it is, I love that!).

4 Do you have any goals for your blog?

Goals…I haven’t really thought that far to be honest. Right now I am just enjoying the blogging community and meeting new people. I have grown and learnt so much about the technological world that we live in. I would like to see my STATS improve, they can sneak in and discourage you at times. In 5 months I have had just under 7000 views and 400 comments (including my own comments). I’m not even sure how to check if that is good? I don’t do any advertising, not because I don’t want to, I just haven’t felt the need to. I’m still such a rookie!!!! Living in the USA I am not sure if we have things like the BiB or Mad Blog Awards, but it would be nice to participate in something like that!

5 Tell us one random fact about you

 I’m not a chocolate or Coca Cola (Coke) fan. 

6 What is the best piece of blog related advice you have received so far?

 To be myself. We get so caught up in trying to impress so that our stats improve. I just want to be me, and hope that the people that like what I write will continue to visit and support me. 

7 What is your favourite thing about blogging?

 Oh most definitely the community. Wow, it has been amazing. You can learn so much from people that you have never met before. I’m big on kindness and in this blogging world I have experienced so much of that! It’s been great! I also enjoy the linkys. You get to “meet” people you might never have spoken to before. 

8 Is there anything you would do differently if you were starting over knowing what you know now?

 Hmmm…No, not really. I’m happy with where my blog is at the moment. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my stories and thankful that it has been such a positive experience for me.

 I should have been born a country singer (haha)
