Do you want to write some fiction but don’t know where to start?
Have a look below at some of these five creative writing prompts – sometimes something so simple can really connect with you, and before you know it, you’re inspired and writing away.
- You wake up in the middle of a forest. You appear to be tied down but uninjured. Where are you? Why are you there? What happens next?
- Imagine a world where animals can talk and humans can’t. The animals are in control of the planet and humans are at their mercy. What happens? Are they kind to us or do they want revenge for the havoc we have caused for generations?
- You wake up and go to brush your teeth. When you look in the mirror, your reflection isn’t you. Who are you? How did you end up in this body?
- Think of your earliest childhood memory – it can be happy or sad, real or imagined. Now go back in time and change one detail of the memory. How does it affect present day you?
- You discover your partner of three months, who you have fallen for completely is actually an escaped convict. How do you feel? Do you turn them in or go on the run with them? What happens next? Do you get your happy ending?
I hope these help stir the creative juices a little. I would love to read some of the stories that come from these prompts. Why not email me your story randommusings29@gmail.com and I will feature some of my favourites here on the blog π

oh I love number 3 #anythinggoes
Thank you π
Oooh! I love how your mind works. If you write any of these stories I’d love to know how they turned out. They sound like a plot to an exciting film.

Thank you, I probably will write something from them at some point π
I am definitely writing up something today with these. You have amazing ideas. I need to strengthen my writing, this will definitely help.

I hope you have fun with them – I’d love to read what you write π
I would love to do creative writing course, I keep mulling this over in my mind, it’s so good to challenge one’s writing, these are excellent prompts. I am now thinking what would it be like if my dog was speaking and not me…it’s all getting a bit Margaret Atwood!
It’s always good to get out of your writing comfort zone! If you do a piece on this, I’d love to read it π
Love this. I’ve always loved creative writing but my Mum berates me because I don’t read books myself. I don’t feel like I need to but hey, that’s just me. It’s my dream to write a comedy series, I have an idea for a sitcom but I’m struggling knowing where to start! #anythinggoes
Thank you π Personally, I find reading helps but each to their own, if it doesn’t help you then that time is time that could be spent writing instead! That sounds really interesting, good luck with it π
fab prompts Debbie! I remember having a book when I was younger which was like a little cube and it all had random prompts in it π #anythinggoes
Thank you π Oh that sounds fab, sometimes you just need that kick start to fire up your imagination
I love a good writing prompt, and these are great. So many ideas running round my head already!
