Anyone who has been following this blog for a while might remember I used to have a weekly “Thought of the Week” feature where I would feature a favourite motivational quote for that week. A month or so ago I re-jigged my posting schedule and with a little bit of sadness, I decided to let this feature go.
I have been missing posting my quotes, so I thought today I would share with you five of my favourite motivational quotes. I hope they help get you fired up for whatever you are planning.
I never dreamed of success. I worked for it – Estee Lauder
I think this quote reminds us that when we feel that pang of envy because someone is doing better than us at something, we need to take a moment and consider how hard they have worked. It also a good reminder that no matter how badly we might want something, thinking about it isn’t enough – we have to go out and make it happen.
Success is often achieved by those that don’t know failure is inevitable – CoCo Chanel
I love so many of CoCo Chanel’s quotes, but I think this one really resonates with me because it’s so true. If you believe you can do something, you are far more likely to do it than if you believe you will fail. It’s almost like taking a childlike view of the world – remember when you whole heartedly believed anything was possible?
To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people just exist – Oscar Wilde
Again, I could have included so many Oscar Wilde quotes. I chose this one because I agree there is a huge difference between living and existing. This quote always reminds me of what is and isn’t important in the big scheme of things.
Do or do not do. There is no try – Yoda
There are so many quotes out there about trying, keeping trying etc (some of which I love), but I think this one sums it up perfectly. There is no try – meaning there’s no middle ground. You either do something, or you don’t. You might still fail, but at least you know you’ve given it your all.
Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it – Roald Dahl
Just like those who don’t believe they can be happy never will be and those who believe they won’t succeed usually fail. Sometimes, you just have to put your belief in something, even if you can’t necessarily see it. And those people who say you can’t do something – they don’t see the magic – surround yourself with believers.
What are your favourite motivational quotes? Let me know in the comments π

I think I like the last one most of all.
Debbie, My Random Musings
That one always makes me smile – belief can go a long way!
jeremy@thirstydaddy
can’t go wrong with Yoda. Lots of words of wisdom from that little mouth
Debbie, My Random Musings
True! Yoda is fab π
Barrie
I love all those quotes.
One of my favorites is “ten years from Nike make sure you can say you chose your life, not settled for it. “
Life Loving
What a lovely post for me to read on a Monday morning. I feel extra motivated as the sun is shining and I have the week off work, but to read these too is just the cherry on the cake.
Have a wonderful and inspired week.
Sally @ Life Loving
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π It sounds like you’re in for a fab week!
Michelle
I love the quote about living vs existing. I have been working on living my life for the past 2 years. Still a work in progress because everyday things seem to keep me pretty busy but its something I consistently work on. I also love you last quote about magic. That is awesome! Thanks for hosting #anythinggoes Debbie!
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π It’s a fantastic goal to aspire to – far too many people just get by rather than enjoying their lives! Thanks for linking up π
kristin mccarthy
Estee Lauder- all the way
#anything goes
Debbie, My Random Musings
She sure tells it how it is!
Alana - Burnished Chaos
These are all favourites of mine too. I have a huge notebook full of quotes that I have come across and loved. The one that always sticks in my head when I’m so bogged down with how much needs to be done to get to a certain outcome is “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” – Confucius
It reminds me to stop worrying about how far I have to go and concentrate on the next step, no matter how small, it’s all progress.
#AnythingGoes
Alana - Burnished Chaos
Stopping by again from #BloggerClubUK x
Debbie, My Random Musings
I love the idea of a quote book. That’s a great quote, and so true – each step is another one towards the end goal!
Alison (MadHouseMum)
The: do or do not quote is an interesting one. I often say this to my kids, but I hadn’t really thought of it in terms of a quote! I love quotes and you have picked out some great ones. I have so many favourites, so will just pick out: An expert in anything was once a beginner. It gives me hope π Alison x #AnythingGoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π The do or do not do is a great one for kids! I love the one you’ve chosen here, it makes you realise that everyone had to start out somewhere and it makes it seem like anything is possible!
Mackenzie Glanville
I always love coco channel’s quotes too. There are some great quotes here and you are right we need to surround ourselves with believers #anythinggoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
Coco Chanel is fantastic, she talks so much sense! We definitely do π
The Tale of Mummyhood
The first one I absolutely love. It’s so easy to look upon someones elses life and judge it one way or another, but everyone has their own story!
#anythinggoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
That’s so true!
Andrea @ Topsy Turvy Tribe
Love Oscar Wilde and totally agree with this quote. Thanks for sharing the positivity #Anythinggoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
I love Oscar Wilde too! Thank you π
Mindful Mummy Mission
I love the first 3 and will be sharing with my students – very inspirational. #AnythingGoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you, I hope they take something away from them π
Ross - The Stented Papa
Great post, right now, I’ve so many idea’s in my mind of where I want to bring my blog too, it’s making my head spin at times but this post and the quotes you’ve selected have really given me a positive ‘let’s get shit done’ attitude so highfive for that π
Personally, I’d always loved and go with ‘Weather you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re probably right’. So for me #2 π #AnythingGoes
Karen Grosz
I love Yoda’s quote. We told our boys that a lot as they were growing up.
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you, it’s a great quote to share with your kids π
Rhian Harris

Debbie, My Random Musings

Debbie, My Random Musings

You can’t go wrong with a few motivational quotes. The one you have here about living being rare is so true. I like it when quotes like this make you stop and think. #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
I do love a good quote! It really does make you think
Rach
Some great ones here. Oscar Wilde might just be my favourite. I wrote a similar post last year called 10 Mantras I Believe In. Whenever i’m feeling a bit lost I look at them and they immediately make me feel better. #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Oscar Wilde is fab, his quotes always get me! That’s great that they have that effect and you are able to always look back on them π
Sarah - Mud Cakes and Wine
They were some lovely posts to read on a tuesday morning with a cuppa and trying to get a new post #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Glad you enjoyed them π
Emma
I love the Estee Lauder quote – it is a good reminder that no matter how much you dream of making all your goals a success, you have to actually work at them to achieve them. Writing them down and daydreaming is not enough! #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Me too! It’s so true – nothing will happen unless we make it happen!
mainy - myrealfairy
‘feel the fear and do it anyway’
I live by that one:) or try to lol
mainy
#bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
I love that one, it’s a good one to live by!
Sarah - Sarahbel
I absolutely love the first quote! My dad’s favourite saying is that there’s no such thing as luck without handwork – and I think it’s the same sentiment. I try to remember that when I need motivation.
#bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
It’s so true isn’t it. Hard work will prevail every time!
Emma
Oh I love a good motivational quote. I love any quote about chasing your dreams π #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π me too!
Claire
I love these, absolutely fabulous selection. I particularly like a quote from the new Disney Cinderella (despite finding that film hugely disappointing!) it goes ‘Have courage and be kind.’ It’s just such a simple thing, but so sweet.
#BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π The Cinderella one is great – it’s two qualities that a lot of people forget, both of which can take you a long way!
Kat
Some wonderful quotes here, I really do believe that success is made, and I love the one about there being no such thing as try. Either give your all or don’t! #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Exactly! “I’ll try” always sounds to me like someone has given up and expects to fail before they even start!
Kirsten Toyne
I like the quote about living rather than existing. It is thought provoking. what really living means will be different for each person but it is one worth pondering. bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
I think that’s what makes it so exciting – that it’s different for everyone, but you’re right, definitely worth pondering!
Lucy At Home
I like the last one. Seeing magic (and happiness) is a conscious decision. Choosing to see the beauty and wonder that is all around us #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
That is so true, it really is a choice
wendy
I love these..my favourite is definitely the Roald Dahl one. I’m not one for reading quotes usually but these all seem to make a lot of sense. Very motivating xx #anythinggoes #BloggerClubUK

Coombe Mill
I love these quotes, the first one is very appealing, all those successful people need to have worked hard to be there, though a little luck and talent helps too! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π I agree luck helps, but actually going out and doing it goes much further!
Kirsty - Winnettes
I love the EstΓ©e Lauder quote! I have a dream I want to achieve and recently I realised that all the while I concider it a dream it won’t happen. So now it’s my goal so I can make it happen! I might pin this quote to my fridge as a daily reminder.
#BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
I love that you changed it from a dream to goal! Good luck π
Petite Words

Thank you π Yes, me too!
Louise
Some really great quotes here! #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π
Something About Baby
I love the first quote – I quite often hear people say ‘so and so is lucky to have so and so’ when actually no, they worked hard to earn it! Whilst it’s great to have a dream, you have to work for it yourself, no-one is going to hand it to you on a plate! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
I totally agree – if it’s handed to you on plate it probably wasn’t worth having!
Angela Watling
I love all of these but particularly love the fact the you’ve featured Yoda! I regularly use that quote on my husband when he says he’ll try to get home early, try to stop at the shop etc. etc π #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π You just can’t do quotes without a Yoda one – great use of it haha π
Helena
Quotes are indeed wonderful. Song lyrics such as Heather Small’s Proud are really motivational to me.#BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π I love a good lyric too!
Yvonne
I love the coco chanel quote! Oh and I love the yoda one as well π #AnythingGoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
I love CoCo Chanel and Yoda quotes in general, but these ones especially π
Tim
I’ve always been a fan of a quote by the South African golfer Gary Player. I forget the exact wording but it goes along the lines of “the harder I practise, the luckier I get”. #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
I love that! It’s a great way of making the “Oh he’s so lucky” crowd re-evaluate their thinking!
Jaki
I love a good quote. I’m sure that’s what Pinterest was invented for. You’ll very often see quotes pinned to my Pinterest link on my blog! I find them so therapeutic!! Great post which you’ve inspired me to do one day, but how on earth do you pick them out of so many?! #anythinggoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
I love quotes too, my Pinterest is full of them π I just kind of scrolled through until I found the ones that jumped out at me and I included a couple of life long favourites π
Jaki
Back again this time from #bloggerclubuk π
Lisa@Intotheglade
Oh I love all of them! I have always loved CoCo’s philosophy on life and Roald Dahl was a genius. I think the Oscar Wilde one is my favourite from this collection though, so true xx #candidcuddles
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π Oscar Wilde’s quote is fab! x
Rhyming with Wine
I love all of these but the last one in particular really struck a chord. My favourite quote goes hand in hand with a few of yours – “if you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re probably right”. I quote it at my little ones every day! Lovely post #candidcuddles x
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π That’s a great one – and so true. Mind set plays a huge roll in the success or failure of anything we do. x
Becky, Cuddle Fairy
Ah Debbie, I’m sad to see Thought of the Week ending. I always loved your quotes for candid cuddles. If you ever do another quote round up please share it with the community! I love the one about living rather than existing best. I think that’s a good one to keep in mind all of the time! Thanks so much for coming back to join #candidcuddles.
Debbie, My Random Musings
I will still be doing the odd quote post, just not every week, and I will definitely be linking them up with you π It’s definitely good to keep in mind – there’s a huge difference being living and existing. Thanks for hosting π
absolutely prabulous
Coco and Oscar. They were just ridiculously eloquent and insightful weren’t they?! I love this. Thanks so much for joining #candidcuddles Debs!
Debbie, My Random Musings
