This week, we have Mary from 1 Week Mary taking part in the Blogger Spotlight interview.
If you would like to take part, and your blog is under six months old, or has been re-launched in the last six months, please email me randommusings29@gmail.com
1 Firstly, tell us a little bit about yourself
I’m 19 years old, am currently studying an English Literature degree in London and have a deeeeeeep passion for writing. My ultimate goal is to be an author one day and I also want to be a motivational speaker. I’m extremely passionate about helping others and want to help bring out the best in people!
2 What is your blog’s name and what is it about?
My blog’s name is 1weekmary and it’s a lifestyle blog. The reason for the “1week” is because the aim is to do different things in a week. For example, I’ve written posts where I’ve read a book a day for a week, played Pokemon Go for a week and am currently doing a week with a virtual listening booth. I will hopefully be doing a LOT more things like a week as a vegetarian, a week as a stylist/make up artist etc. I call them “1 Weekers”.
3 Why did you decide to start a blog?
I’ve always loved writing but have never known how to pursue a career in it. I’ve tried blogging before (a couple of years ago I used blogger for a month or so), but failed miserably. I didn’t really care much, but now I’m at university and am beginning to think about progressing my career, I realised that blogging is perfect – I get to write about things I’m passionate about and I get to do it at my own pace.
4 Do you have any goals for your blog?
I guess the ultimate aim is for others to be able to read my posts and genuinely enjoy and relate to them.
5 Tell us one random fact about you
I love travelling and hope to travel to all of the continents one day.
6 What is the best piece of blog related advice you have received so far?
I was reading someone’s blog not that long ago, (sorry – I can’t remember whose it was!) and I saw them saying they’d always been told their blog had to have a niche, and to them, their voice was their niche. I absolutely love that as it was very motivating and I realised that I can 100% relate to it.
7 What is your favourite thing about blogging?
My favourite thing about blogging is the fact that it’s my own personal space, where I’m able to share my experiences and write about whatever I want. Also, receiving positive feedback where someone’s said they enjoyed your post or that they can relate to it is extremely rewarding.
8 Is there anything you would do differently if you were starting over knowing what you know now?
I’d probably take the time to look at more blogs instead of just plunging into it and writing my first post. However, that being said, in a way I’m kind of glad I hadn’t looked at more blogs, as it ensures that I didn’t copy anyone and my blog is 100% authentic. One of the things I would do, though, is find a good balance between life, uni and blogging, because I didn’t realise just how much things can pile up if you don’t have that balance.
9 Anything else you’d like to share with us?
Always be happy, and be yourself. Do whatever makes you happy and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!
10 Where can we find you? (blog link and links to any social media)
My Instagram’s under construction at the moment, but feel free to check it out!
