This week, we have Hayley from The Mindful Mummy Mission taking part in the Blogger Spotlight interview.
If you would like to take part, and your blog is under six months old, or has been re-launched in the last six months, please email me randommusings29@gmail.com
1 Firstly, tell us a little bit about yourself
Hi there, I’m the ‘Mummy on a Mindful Mission’ (or Hayley when I’m not blogging!) who joined the blogging community just under 6 months ago. Mum to a 5 year old boy and toddler twin girls, living in South-East London (or Sarf-East if you’re a local – which I’m not – I proudly call myself a ‘northerner’ even though I’ve lived in the capital for nearly 15 years now) because my lovely hubby’s work means that we are tied to the south-east. I’m also a part-time secondary school History teacher – I work 3 days a week to have a rest. J Over the last few years I have become increasingly passionate about Mindfulness and so am very excited to have recently trained to be able to teach it to young people.
2 What is your blog’s name and what is it about?
The blog’s name is www.themindfulmummymission.com which hopefully gives you some idea as to what it is about – it’s a mixture of parenting and mindfulness related stuff with some occasional comment on things like education thrown in too. Lots of people aren’t too sure what Mindfulness is so my posts explore this and try to explain a little more about it in an easy to follow way for busy Mums and Dads. I also blog about the chaos that 3 children including toddler twins can bring to a household and what coping mechanisms I tend to adopt to TRY to keep calm and sane.
3 Why did you decide to start a blog?
Personally it was time for a new challenge. I have always enjoyed writing so I decided to give blogging a go after talking to a few friends about it. I also find that blogging about Mindfulness helps to remind me to be mindful too and I get to read some really interesting articles about Mindfulness to then share with others.
However, my overriding reason for starting the blog was to raise awareness about Mindfulness. There is a lot of misunderstanding surrounding Mindfulness and I aim to write about it in a light-hearted and down-to-earth manner so people will hopefully understand that living mindfully in our frenetic society is helpful for everyone (not just people suffering from mental health problems – although undeniably it can help treat some mental illnesses) and that it is not just practiced by hippies! Approaching life mindfully has really helped me with my ‘emotional hygiene’ and I just want to spread the word so that others can benefit from it too.
4 Do you have any goals for your blog?
My main goal is to keep growing my readership so that more and more people are aware of how Mindfulness can be easily incorporated into their day-to-day family life and understand the benefits of it too so they can choose to find out more about it if they wish.
5 Tell us one random fact about you
Ooooo let me think: I got together with my husband on my 21st Birthday at the Sheffield Uni union night known as ‘Loveshack’ – it was a loooooong time ago.
6 What is the best piece of blog related advice you have received so far?
This is so tricky as there’s so much good advice out there. However, I really liked Fi from A Mum Track Mind’s advice in her post about scheduling tweets in order to promote posts. I had never used Twuffer before but do now and I think it’s helped my presence on Twitter a little.
7 What is your favourite thing about blogging?
I have to admit I’ve become a little addicted so I love lots about it! Something I’m really enjoying is becoming more and more confident about joining different ‘linkys’. It’s great reading other people’s fantastic posts and starting to get to know others in the blogging community too.
8 Is there anything you would do differently if you were starting over knowing what you know now?
I would do more research into the presentation of the blog. I am conscious that mine is a bit of an amateurish outfit and yet feel like it is only getting harder and harder to change as the months roll by.
9 Anything else you’d like to share with us?
Just to say thank you to the #mbloggers and #pbloggers who have been so welcoming as I’m getting to know my way round Twitter and the blogging world in general.
Also I’d like to emphasise that I’m always happy to spend time virtually talking to people about Mindfulness and although I’m no academic and only qualified to teach it to young people I’m happy to answer any questions people may have so please don’t hesitate to email me @ onamindfulmummymission@gmail.com. More information about my teaching of Mindfulness to 11 – 18 year olds can also be found at www.missionmindfulness.co.uk.
