Well, it wouldn’t be Halloween if I didn’t write a little spooky story would it?
So here goes, a piece of Halloween flash fiction:
The Invitation
Standing in front of the oppressive building Bianca knew she had made a mistake. The stone gargoyles watched her.
Nobody would host a party here. The invitation had been sent to mock her. There was probably a camera recording, uploading her stupidity to YouTube.
As if she wasn’t tormented enough at school. Why did they all hate her? Maybe because she was different; they couldn’t understand how she didn’t want to be another clone.
As she turned to leave, the door swung open, seemingly of its own accord. She stepped in, deciding to play them at their own game; laugh it off.
Stumbling, Bianca reached out a hand to steady herself and felt someone grab her wrist. She tried to prise the fingers off but she couldn’t. A hood of some kind was forced over her head, and she relaxed, reminding herself she wasn’t going to give them a show.
She allowed herself to be led forwards. The hood was removed.
Bianca glanced around quickly, taking in the stone altar, the tight circle of classmates pressing around her, the knife that was slashing towards her face.
She pulled back. The knife nicked her, stinging, drawing blood.
They crowded in, frenzied, excited. She could smell the primal, musky smell coming off them in waves.
‘Tonight, you die,’ said a voice.
I hope you enjoyed the short story! Let me know what you all thought in the comments 🙂
