As you all know, I love anything horror related. I am one of those strange people who genuinely like being scared.
So I thought I would put together my haunted locations bucket list – 7 places that are rumoured to be haunted that I would love to visit.
Haunted Locations 1: Island of the Dolls, Mexico
Technically, I have no idea if this is haunted or not, but it sure looks creepy. The Island of the Dolls is a small, uninhabited island with dolls strung up in trees etc. It looks like some sort of village of the dead. Imagine walking through there and just feeling all of those lifeless eyes on you. The dolls are said to be possessed by the spirit of a girl who drowned on the island, and people have reported seeing the dolls’ heads and limbs moving.
Haunted Locations 2: Leap Castle, Ireland
This castle is rumoured to be the most haunted place in Ireland. There have been many reported ghost sightings here, often accredited to the Murder Room, a room with a permanent blood stain on the floor, and the dungeon – where people were imprisoned and left to rot. Perhaps the most disturbing sighting is the ghost referred to only as “It”. A creature about the size of a sheep, with a decaying, inhuman face which is said to bring the smell of death when it appears.
Haunted Locations 3: The Haunted Forest, Romania
This forest, rumoured to be the most haunted forest in the world is said to bring on feelings of intense anxiety, nausea and the feeling of being constantly watched. Of course, this could be due to the power of suggestion, but there is something extremely unnatural about the plant life in the forest. The trees bend in the strangest shapes, and many of them bear unexplained char marks.
Haunted Locations 4: Auschwitz, Poland
Perhaps it would be more accurate to describe Auschwitz as haunting rather than haunted. It was a Nazi concentration camp during the second world war. Many visitors report feeling uneasy and depressed when visiting, although this could obviously be a compassionate response for the masses of people slaughtered here.
Haunted Locations 5: Poveglia, Italy
I had never heard of this Italian island until I stumbled across a post about it by JH Moncrieff, which you can read here. This post made me want to visit this island – it sounds truly terrifying. I’m not sure how long I’d last, but I’d love to give it a try. Imagine the scare factor of knowing you are the only living person on the full island.
Haunted Locations 6: The Catacombs, Paris, France
The Catacombs is a series of tunnels, 20m below the ground in Paris. The tunnels are lined with the bones of thousands of people who were buried here when Paris officials decided grave yards posed a threat to public health. The fact that some of the remains are arranged quite artfully would surely only add to the chill factor.
Haunted Locations 7: Alcatraz, San Francisco
Another one that may be more haunting than haunted, Alcatraz, which closed in 1963, housed some of the world’s most notorious criminals. No one ever successfully escaped from Alcatraz, although several inmates tried and died for their efforts. The place is often mentioned to have a creepy sort of feel, and many people report feeling as though they are being watched.
So there you have it. My haunted locations bucket list. Have you visited any of these haunted locations? Which places are on your bucket list? Let me know in the comments ๐

Thank you ๐

I’ve actually been to Alcatraz. I was about 13, so I don’t remember much about the visit.
Debbie, My Random Musings
I think if I’d visited at that age, it wouldn’t have made much of an impression – it would have just been an old building to me then.
Mackenzie Glanville
oh no that doll pic I couldn’t even look at it! #anythinggoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
oops sorry lol!
Life Loving
These places sure are creepy, especially that doll place. That’s freaky. I’m not sure I’d like to visit any of them!
Sally @ Life Loving
Debbie, My Random Musings
I’d be terrified lol but that’s what makes it fun!
Alison (MadHouseMum)
I’ve been to Alcatraz and was fascinated, but I’m not sure I felt it was haunted. I am a complete cynic though! Have you seen that photo that’s doing the rounds at the mo, of the group of women and there’s an extra hand…spooky! This is a great bucket list – I hope you get to them all ๐ Alison x #AnythingGoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
In one sense, I’m a bit cynical too – if something is televised, it’s so easy to fake etc. I like to try and find an explanation for hauntings, and then if you can’t it makes it all the more weird! Yes, I’ve seen that photo, it’s definitely spooky! x
Jaki
I was meant to go to Auscwitz on a school trip but that part got cancelled at the last minute. I was gutted! I would still like to go. I have some weird & warped fascination.
Great post. I hope you get to go to some of these places some day. #anythinggoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
I would have been too! I think I’m a bit weird as well lol

I say skip Alcatraz and come to New Orleans instead! We have the cities of the dead because we cant bury people in the ground here! Plus we have the history of Voodoo here. Also, not but 2 hours away is the famous Haunted Myrtles Plantation! Its a Haunted Bucketlist Dream!
Debbie, My Random Musings
I didn’t know about any of this! New Orleans sounds like the perfect place to get creeped out – especially the cities of the dead!
Yvonne

Auschwitz and Alcatraz would be so interesting but I’d be sure to get nightmares afterwards as over think way too much!!! Thanks for hosting #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
I think these experiences, especially Auschwitz where the people where innocent would stay with you long after a visit.
Kat
So interesting! I’ve heard of some of these before. I’m off to read about the Italian place though, very intrigued. The woods look like they’re from the Blair Witch! Creepy indeed. Adam would love to do something like this. #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
The woods are well creepy aren’t they!
Chilli Regina
Well, this looks pretty scary to me! I’m quite a “chicken” when it comes to ghosts, hunted places or even just roumors about it! I’m not sure I would visit any of these locations, but probably my family would love it!:)
#BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
I love visiting places rumoured to be haunted – the power of suggestion is a powerful thing and that eerie feeling it encourages is brilliant!
Coffee & Bubbles
I’m the complete opposite, I hate being scared. Can’t stand horror films or anything! I have been to Alcatraz, it’s well worth a visit if you’re in SF. There’s one cell you can go into and when you shut the door it is pitch black. From memory, this was the cell for solitary confinement. Horrid! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
I love being scared! That cell sounds like a fab experience (although not for the people who were locked in there for days on end!)
Agatha & Mary
The dolls in the trees in Mexico give one the heebie geebies! #Bloggerclubuk xx
Debbie, My Random Musings
Me too, but that’s all part of the fun ๐ x
Jane Taylor
DOn’t expect me to be your PLUS ONE! I’m scared of the dark, never mind voluntarily visiting ghostly settings! I once locked myself in our bathroom with a hammer when I was younger after my sister freaked me out with ghost stories! Really interesting post though…from the safety of my armchair! #BloggerclubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Haha I love that! Being scared is all part of the fun!
Amie
I would love to visit the concentration camps too! The history behind it all is fascinating #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
I agree – it is fascinating and I think keeping these places open helps to make sure nothing like this is ever allowed to happen again!
Kirsty - Winnettes
I could visit many of these places but the haunted forest really creeps me out! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Me too, but that’s what makes it fun lol!
Brandi Puga
I want to go to every single one! How fun! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Me too!

Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you ๐ And Happy almost Halloween to you too!
Lex Jackson
Well that’s me having every single light on in the house for the rest of the night. It creeped me out just looking at the pictures and reading your little bit about the different places. I’ve heard about that doll island though, it looks so creepy! My other half visited Auschwitz and he said it gives you such an uneasy feeling because of everything that went on there. It’s a bloody good post for the start of the Halloween month, and different too! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Haha sorry! I think Auschwitz would stay with you for a long time after leaving! Thank you ๐
Sharon Parry
I love all your posts Debbie but this was the best so far!! Right…the Catacombs in Paris, yes definitely would love to see that. The Island of the Dolls, Mexico – one of the creepiest photos I have EVER seen and to be avoided at all costs!! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thanks Sharon ๐ Haha, it would be mega creepy but that would add to the fun!
Jo (Mother of Teenagers)
Debbie, my daughter and husband would love this list as they love horror and my daughter especially is a Halloween fanatic. Love the look of the Island of the Dolls and Poveglia. Have visited the Catacombs and ironically we are about to head off to California and our first stop is Alcatraz – will let you know what it is like. #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
I’m the same! Oh please do let me know how it goes ๐
Jess Helicopter
This is SUCH an interesting read! Makes such a refreshing change! I’d love to visit all these places too! Spookarama! I don’t know if i believe in ghosts but I love hearing ghost stories…. they proper freak me out. Have you been on any ghost walks? That’s on my bucket list to do when the kids are older…even if you just get to learn a bit of gruesome history. Great stuff! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you ๐ I love being freaked out, it’s fab! I haven’t yet but we are talking about going on one in a local pub in November – if we do, I’m sure there’s a blog post in it!

Jo Sandelson
Coo! This makes a change from all the usual parent child stuff mine included. Been meaning to visit Auschwitz for a while as my great grandparents and other relatives were killed there. Don’t think I’d visit the others though but good research! #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you ๐ I think a visit would be particularly harrowing when its personal like that – if you ever do go, I’d love to hear about your experience
Debbie
Hi Debbie, I love watching scary things like Ghost Adventures on the television, but I think my heart would give in if I ever stepped foot inside a haunted place. Saying that I wouldn’t mind visiting Auschwitz and Alcatraz (haven’t read the book yet, but it’s going to be a dark winter’s night read).
UK has some pretty interesting haunted places that I wouldn’t mind visiting and looking at from the safety of the car!
Hope you get visit your bucket list.
xx
Debbie, My Random Musings
The book is amazing – it will make you want to go! There’s a few places I’d like to visit in the UK too – it’s not scary unless you get out of the car though haha x
Tracey Abrahams
This is an awesome bucket list, but I am far too much of a wuss to ever contemplate visiting them. I prefer to read about these places. #Bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you ๐ Hopefully I’ll get to visit them one day and write about them!
The Pramshed
This gave me the goose bumps reading this. I love a good horror/ghost movie too, although I’m not too sure if I could ever stay at these places. Thanks for hosting a fab linky. Claire x #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
I love being scared so I would definitely stay – whether or not I’d actually enjoy it until I was back away from them is another question lol. Thanks for linking up! x
Briony
I really wanted to visit Alcatraz when we were in San Francisco but we just didn’t have time, we only had an afternoon before an early morning flight home. Auschwitz and the Catacombs in Paris are on my visit list too. That Island of Dolls though is most certainly not, nothing creepier than dolls, I’d never sleep again if I saw one move!! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Oh no, I’d have been gutted to be so close and not be able to go. The dolls would be terrifying, but that’s part of the fun!
Silly Mummy
Creepy! I haven’t been to any of these. I find things like this interesting, but I am easily scared so not sure how much I’d like to actually visit!
#AnythingGoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
I’m pretty sure I’d be terrified, but that’s all part of the fun!
Laura
An awesome list! I’ve always been fascinated by Alcatraz and would love to visit one day. The creepiest one has to be the dolls though *shudder #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you ๐ Me too! There’s something about the thought of all them dolls watching you isn’t there!

For someone who it afraid of the dark and I still sleep with the light on, I ended up actually being a paranormal investigator. My friend told me as she picked me up that we were going to a new location, somewhere in Stockport, she only got the post code as we were travelling. Earlier that day I kept having flashes of something I couldnโt understand, i saw an really old building, which looked derelict. Inside was what looked like graffiti but in blood, I saw trees inside the building and right at the back of this very large room was a small room which was pitch black, no windows, which made me feel sick and anxious. As we arrived at the location, my stomach began to churn, it looked like my vision, I instantly saw someone peering out one of the top floor windows. I told our friend about the visions Iโd had and the guy who owned the building heard what I was saying and told me to go somewhere with him. As I walked up the concrete stairs, I was in my vision, blood on the walls, we went through the door and it was a huge room with trees inside and I walked right to the back and took him to the room without windows, I couldnโt go inside. This guy who owned the building was freaked out, the building was used as a shooting fasility for Airsoft, which was why there was blood and trees. I could go on about all the other freaky things that happened that night but this little story is long enough lol
Debbie, My Random Musings
Oh wow that sounds freaky as hell! Being a paranormal investigator must have definitely led to some strange situations!
