I suppose you could call this my books wish list. These are five books that I am dying to read next year. I say next year because I still have a few of this year’s wish list to get through.
Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult
Why?
I love all of Jodi Picoult’s books, and I’m eagerly anticipating this new release.
What’s it about?
When a newborn baby dies after a routine hospital procedure, there is no doubt about who will be held responsible: the nurse who had been banned from looking after him by his father.
What the nurse, her lawyer and the father of the child cannot know is how this death will irrevocably change all of their lives, in ways both expected and not.
The Fireman by Joe Hill
Why?
Joe Hill was recommended to me and I love the sound of this one (also, I’ve just found out he’s Stephen King’s son, and while that shouldn’t matter, it’s intrigued me).
What’s it about?
Nobody knew where the virus came from. Fox News said it had been set loose by ISIS, using spores that had been invented by the Russians in the 1980s. MSNBC said sources indicated it might’ve been created by engineers at Halliburton and stolen by culty Christian types fixated on the Book of Revelation. CNN reported both sides. While every TV station debated the cause, the world burnt.
Pregnant school nurse, Harper Grayson, had seen lots of people burn on TV, but the first person she saw burn for real was in the playground behind the school. This is one woman’s story of survival at the end of the world.
The House on Cold Hill by Peter James
Why?
Peter James is another favourite author of mine, couple that with a haunted house and of course I have to read it.
What’s it about?
Moving from the heart of the city of Brighton and Hove to the Sussex countryside is a big undertaking for born townies, Ollie Harcourt, his wife, Caro, and their twelve-year-old daughter, Jade. But when they view Cold Hill House – a huge, dilapidated, Georgian mansion – they are filled with excitement. Despite the financial strain of the move, Ollie has dreamed of living in the country since he was a child, and with its acres of land, he sees Cold Hill House as a paradise for his animal-loving daughter, a base for his web-design business and a terrific long-term investment. Caro is less certain, and Jade is grumpy about being removed from all her friends.
But within days of moving in, it soon becomes apparent that the Harcourt family aren’t the only residents in the house. At first it is only a friend of Jade, talking to her on Facetime, who sees a spectral woman standing behind her. Then there are more sightings of her, as well as increasingly disturbing occurrences in the house. Two weeks after moving in, Caro, out in the garden, is startled to see faces staring out of an upstairs window of the house. The window of a room which holds the secret to the house’s dark history . . . a room which does not appear to exist . . .
The Three by Sarah Lotz
Why?
This caught my attention when I first saw the cover (I know we shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, but we all do it) and I love the idea behind the story.
What’s it about?
They’re here … The boy. The boy watch the boy watch the dead people oh Lordy there’s so many … They’re coming for me now. We’re all going soon. All of us. Pastor Len warn them that the boy he’s not toΒΒ… The last words of Pamela May Donald (1961 – 2012)
Black Thursday. The day that will never be forgotten. The day that four passenger planes crash, at almost exactly the same moment, at four different points around the globe.
There are only four survivors. Three are children, who emerge from the wreckage seemingly unhurt. But they are not unchanged. And the fourth is Pamela May Donald, who lives just long enough to record a voice message on her phone. A message that will change the world.
The message is a warning.
The Bear Who Wouldn’t Leave by JH Moncrieff
Why?
Every time I visit her blog, I see this book and want to read it. I’ve finally gotten around to buying it and I can’t wait to get stuck in.
What’s it about?
Sometimes evil looks like a fuzzy teddy bear.
Still grieving the untimely death of his dad, 10-year-old Josh Leary is reluctant to accept a well-worn stuffed teddy bear from his new stepfather. He soon learns he was right to be wary. Edgar is no ordinary toy…and he doesn’t like being rejected. When Josh banishes him to the closet, terrible things begin to happen. Desperate to be rid of the bear, Josh engages the help of a friend. As the boys’ efforts rebound on them with horrifying results, Josh is forced to accept the truth – Edgar will always get even.

Ugh, as if my to-read list wasn’t long enough, now I have to add all of these ones.
If you enjoy the Joe Hill book, I recommend getting Horns next. It is super weird, but i really liked it a lot. I read it a year or two before the movie came out (not exactly the same but still a good watch). He has a couple comic book series as well.
Debbie, My Random Musings
Haha sorry!
I like weird so I’ll definitely add it to my list, thanks π

five little doves
Big fan of Jodi Picoult too, I’ve never read one of hers that I didn’t love, although they aren’t an easy read and require me to really put my brain in gear at times! Fab selection here! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings

I absolutely love to read and all five of these books sound really intriguing. I’m more of a romcom kind of gal (huge Marion Keyes fan) so I’m not sure how I’d get on with these especially the second one (it’s a bit too real with what’s going on in the world at the moment) but the first one sounds like one I could read. I’ve read a couple of Jodi Piccoult books before and really enjoyed them. ‘The Three’ sounds really good too but the one about the house sounds a bit too creepy for me.
(Unhinged mummy stopping by from #bloggerclubuk). Thanks for hosting π
Debbie, My Random Musings
I love Jodi Picoult, she’s such a good writer! I know what you mean about the Joe Hill one it sounds pretty close to the knuckle!
Becky @ Educating Roversi
My brain won’t deal with these books! Too much to think about. I love pure escapism in the form of chick lit βΊοΈ #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
I don’t mind the odd bit of chick lit π
Charlene
Jodi is the master of storytelling, sometimes I’m not even that into the story but I HAVE to finish! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
She’s amazing isn’t she – one of the best writers I’ve ever read!
Jo (Mother of Teenagers)
Debbie I love your reviews, you really have a dark side. Some of these would terrify the pants off me, although I may be ok with Jodi. #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π Haha I do have kind of a twisted taste lol! Yes, I think you would be!
Lucy Grace
Nice choices! Especially intrigued by the one about Edgar the bear. Lol! I’d love to read more but as soon as I try I get through one page and fall asleep! One day I will make it through whole chapters again. Xx #BloggerClubUk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thanks π That bear will give me nightmares haha! x
Tabitha Siklos
Oooh, they look great. I’m a bit scared of that bear though. I love Stephen King so I’ll definitely check out his son’s new book. I was in Waterstone’s today and came across the Booker prize winner for this year – The Sellout by Paul Beatty. It looks great – not a horror – but a satire. I’ll add these all to my list! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thanks for the recommendation – I’ll check it out π
Becky
I really like the sound of the fireman! Think I might have to add that one to my Christmas list! #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
It’s on mine too π
Silly Mummy
These sound interesting, though I think a couple would be too scary for me! #AnythingGoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
Yeah I think a few are a bit scary!
Yvonne
