This week, we have Claire from A Life in Practice taking part in the Blogger Spotlight interview.
If you would like to take part, and your blog is under six months old, or has been re-launched in the last six months, please email me randommusings29@gmail.com
1 Firstly, tell us a little bit about yourself
My name is Claire, I am 30 years old and live in Kent, South East England with my husband and our two boys, Gray (3 ¾ ) and Rhyd (8 months).
I work part time and hope to become a wahm someday.
I grew up in middle-of-nowhere-Wales, I love to eat at Yo Sushi and watch horror movies.
My life goals now include: moving to a ‘forever home’ (currently in our ‘starter home’) with an extra bedroom or space I can convert into my own little bloggy office. I don’t know why but having an office at home has become a symbol of success for me; a goal worth striving toward.
2 What is your blog’s name and what is it about?
A Life in Practice – because no one gets it right first time!
My blog covers the usual parenting blog areas, recipes, tips, parenting stories, but the focus here is on how to cope with the day to day when you suffer from Negative Automatic Thoughts (NATs), depression and anxiety. I also offer tips on frugal money saving ideas, being productive and reminding yourself you are a good parent even if you don’t always get it right.
3 Why did you decide to start a blog?
I have always loved to write and wanted to write novels, but let the dream be pushed to the back of the priority list by life. While on maternity leave with Rhyd I realised how desperately I wanted to be able to work from home, rather than go back. Even though I fell in love with blog culture years ago, it took me until now to realise blogging might be the answer to both these things!
4 Do you have any goals for your blog?
I want to help people. I’d like people to leave my blog feeling positive and like they can achieve what they’ve been worrying over. I’d also like to create a platform for getting my ebooks out into the world; books that will make people’s lives easier and help them feel better about themselves.
5 Tell us one random fact about you
I backpacked New Zealand alone when I was 18 and did 7 bungee jumps in a row.
6 What is the best piece of blog related advice you have received so far?
Join Link parties. Seriously, I’ve made connections, gained traffic and joined FB and Pinterest groups I never would have if I hadn’t started joining Linkys!
7 What is your favourite thing about blogging?
Writing. Some days I go to a coffee shop and Husband has the kids. I will sit for two hours and write three blog posts in a row without slowing down. Once I get going the words just flow and it’s incredibly freeing and therapeutic, no matter the subject.
8 Is there anything you would do differently if you were starting over knowing what you know now?
Absolutely: content! I started the blog up with only three posts. I’ve added three a week since then because I don’t really have time to do more, having so much to learn and explore. However, promoting on social media and linkys gets hard if you’ve only got a handful of posts to promote over and over! If I could go back, I’d make sure I had at least 20 posts ready for when I launched!
9 Anything else you’d like to share with us?
I am thrilled, terrified and excited to announce the launch of my new ebook! Frugal Living for Lazy People is a little book of tips and tricks learnt from experience and used by yours truly to save money every month! It is the first of many I plan to write, the next one is going to focus more on emotional wellbeing and mental health, so a slight change of subject!
