This week, we have Sarah from Sarahbel taking part in the Blogger Spotlight interview.
If you would like to take part, and your blog is under six months old, or has been re-launched in the last six months, please email me randommusings29@gmail.com
1 Firstly, tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hello! My name is Sarah I’m 32, I’m originally from Yorkshire but currently live in London with my husband Monty, baby girl Matilda and fat cats Barney & Roy.
2 What is your blog’s name and what is it about?
My blog is called Sarahbel, my dad’s nickname for me. Initially I wanted it to be a space to focus on things away from baby so I started and then quickly abandoned the following blogs:
- a food blog but realised I’m a rubbish cook.
- a fitness blog but realised I cba to exercise anymore
- a fashion blog, but realised I was too fat, too poor and too into babydom to have anything worthwhile to say.
Thus, Sarahbel was born… I’ve been surprised how much I like writing about being a mum but I still do want it to be eclectic – about being a mum but also about still being me too!
3 Why did you decide to start a blog?
Long story…. After being on maternity leave for about 6months I started to feel a bit empty and I think it was because I missed working, but I also knew I was in no way ready to go back to my stressy office job. The solution I found was to do the occasional bit of copywriting in evenings and nap times. However, there seems to be the expectation that if you’re a copywriter you blog too, it works as a kind of shop window I guess. So, that’s what I did. I must confess though that I’ve become totally obsessed with the blog and the copywriting has slipped away…
4 Do you have any goals for your blog?
Hmmm I’m not sure, it’s still early days so just seeing where it takes me. When I’m not on mat leave I work in magazines doing commercial collaborations with brands, so I guess that is a natural extension but I think that’s years down the line yet. So I guess short term goals are just to create good content and grow the social media side of things.
Oh and I’d also like to improve my photography. My ‘posh’ camera has been sat on my dining room table gathering dust for too long now.
5 Tell us one random fact about you
Errrm Yikes, I’m not sure there is anything! Quite random that my first ‘proper’ job after leaving Uni was working on Vogue magazine. It’s been a fall from grace ever since…
6 What is the best piece of blog related advice you have received so far?
Both ‘good content always wins out’ and ‘practice makes perfect’ are my mottos. I try to reconcile the two by writing frequently just to get the creating vibes flowing and improve my style, but then spending longer on posts I think are stronger.
7 What is your favourite thing about blogging?
I think it’s the creativity and that it’s ALL MINE (MWAHAHAHA!) – I can say what I want as opposed to writing in the style of a brand or magazine.
I also like the diversity, if I don’t want to write then I can do social media stuff or take pics or work on the design. I can be quite faddy but because there’s so much to blogging it suits that.
8 Is there anything you would do differently if you were starting over knowing what you know now?
Started earlier. Kept the instructions to the posh camera.
9 Anything else you’d like to share with us?
The biggest revelation is the blogging community. I had no idea it existed, so THANK YOU to everyone that’s read my blog, commented, hosted linkies, ‘liked’ my blog/twitter/facers/insta etc. Obviously a huge thank you to Debbie at Random Musings too for spotlighting me. A big sloppy MWAH To you all!
