Are you looking for some inspiration for gift ideas as Christmas creeps up? Here is my gift guide for all book lovers.
Books – Fiction
I think its a bit of a no brainer that your book loving family and friends will enjoy books. Here are a few ideas, featuring some of the best books I’ve read this year (and a shameless plug, sorry).
The Stranger In My Home by Adele Parks
The Stranger In My Home centres around a family who’s world is turned upside down when they find out that due to a hospital mix up, not only is their daughter not their biological daughter, but she also has a 50% chance of having a mutated gene which greatly increases her risk of getting terminal cancer. It’s a page turner for sure, with plenty of twists (review coming Wednesday).
The Jessie Jefferson Series by Paige Toon
The Jessie Jefferson Series centres around a teenage girl who discovers her father is an international rock star. It follows her life as she learns to negotiate the world of fame and rock and roll while still maintaining her friendships and relationships at home. Jessie is a relatable character, and although the book is aimed at teens, I think older women will get a sense of nostalgia from this series. You can read my review here.
The Ice Twins by S K Tremayne
The Ice Twins is full of twists and turns that keep you guessing right up to the end. It centres around a family with twin daughters, one of whom dies in a tragic accident – no one is entirely certain which one, including the remaining twin. This book is at times emotional – you will feel for the young girl so much – and always entertaining. With so many twists, you can’t stop reading until you know what happens (review coming next Monday).
The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum
The Girl Next Door is not for the faint hearted. It centres around a girl who ends up being locked in a basement by a twisted woman and a group of neighbour hood kids. As the girl’s imprisonment draws out, she is tortured, with each act being worse than the last. The book takes you on a twisted journey which illustrates peer pressure and group mentality at it’s darkest. Read my review here.
The Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan
I am a huge Rick Riordan fan. His re-workings of the legends of the God are fantastic. The characters really come to life, and Percy Jackson, a boy who never wanted to be a hero, is a hero we can all get behind. The books are funny in places and fast paced, making a great read. You can read my review here.
The Joker by Well, Me
I did warn you there would be a shameless plug but if I don’t tell you about my book, who will? The Joker is a story of love versus power, dark vs light. It follows Kayleigh’s journey from a Ouija board, to her friend’s mysterious deaths, all the way through to demonic possession. Will she choose love or power?
Books – Non-Fiction
Inside Alcatraz – My Time On The Rock by Jim Quillen
This true life account, told by Jim Quillen, shows how life Inside Alcatraz really was. It dispels some myths, and in some cases, replaces them with worse scenarios. It also tells the inside truth about the notorious escape attempt which resulted in several prisoners being killed. You can read my review here.
Navigating Indieworld by Julie A Gerber and Carole P Roman
If you know anyone who is looking to start out in the self publishing world, Navigating Indieworld would be invaluable to them. It is by far the best self publishing guide I have read. It gives easy to understand instruction for every stage from editing, cover design, uploading and marketing your book. You can read my review here.
Non-Books
If you don’t really know your friend or family member’s taste in books, why not have a look at some of the ideas below? Please note – this section is not because your friend has enough books already; there is no such thing as enough books!
Harry Potter Quotes Cushion
How fab is this cushion? There’s a huge range, with different quotes from the books. I chose this one, because I love this quote – “Happiness can be found in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light”. I think this quote is relatable, and even non Harry Potter fans will appreciate the truth of it.
Bookmark
A bookmark sounds rather boring doesn’t it? But the funny quote stops it from actually being boring. This is exactly how your book loving friend feels. If the language offends you (sorry) read more books – you’ll soon find it’s a perfectly acceptable response to being disturbed.
The Hunger Games Key Ring
This key ring is an ideal stocking filler. Cute, functional, and a symbol any fans of the franchise will recognise (and probably everyone else too).
Other Ideas
Still not feeling it? Why not find out their favourite book and try to find a rare first edition, or a signed copy? It might be quite difficult, and probably expensive, but it will be a gift that is cherished for years to come.
And if all else fails, there’s always Amazon or Waterstones vouchers!
Happy shopping!
Are you a book lover? Which gift would you most like to receive from the list? Any other suggestions? Let me know in the comments 🙂
