It’s been forever since I wrote a book review here, and seeing as this month’s topic is books, it seemed like a good idea to post one this month. And what better book to choose to review than Navigating Indieworld by Julie A Gerber and Carole P Roman.

My Thoughts on The Book
I have read a lot (and I mean a lot) of articles and books about self-publishing, but I have never read one quite this good.
The book is broken down into chapters, and each chapter relates to a self contained topic, making navigation easy if you only want to look at certain aspects.
The first part of the book talks about the process of getting your book ready and actually publishing it. How I wish I’d found this book before I blindly began my self-publishing journey and learned this stuff through trial and frustrating error after error. The advice is spot on and simple to follow.
The second part of the book is what got me really excited about it. It is all about marketing your self-published book.
I read somewhere once that traditional publishing is about knowing how to write books, where self-publishing is about knowing how to sell books. This is so true.
And if you don’t know how to sell books, Navigating Indieworld will teach you. Again, it’s in simple, easy-to-follow sections, which take you through every step. They don’t just tell you what to do – they tell you how to do it, which is something a lot of these books lack.
Each chapter ends with a handy checklist of things you need to do which is great to refer back to.
Conclusion and Rating
This is the first book of it’s kind that had me not only nodding along, but actually excited at the idea of marketing. I felt so motivated. I will definitely be following this guide when my new novel is released early next year. I can’t recommend this book highly enough. 5/5

It is scary, like really scary, releasing your first book, but the sense of achievement far outweighs it. Don’t let all of your hard work be wasted – you’ll always regret it!
