The Ice Twins was a book I judged by it’s cover – I thought it looked intriguing – and maybe you should judge a book by its cover because I was definitely right about this one.
The Ice Twins by S K Tremayne
Blurb From the Back Cover
A terrifying psychological thriller perfect for fans of THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN.
A year after one of their identical twin daughters, Lydia, dies in an accident, Angus and Sarah Moorcraft move to the tiny Scottish island Angus inherited from his grandmother, hoping to put together the pieces of their shattered lives.
But when their surviving daughter, Kirstie, claims they have mistaken her identity – that she, in fact, is Lydia – their world comes crashing down once again.
As winter encroaches, Angus is forced to travel away from the island for work, Sarah is feeling isolated, and Kirstie (or is it Lydia?) is growing more disturbed. When a violent storm leaves Sarah and her daughter stranded, Sarah finds herself tortured by the past – what really happened on that fateful day one of her daughters died?
My Thoughts on The Book
We learn straight away that one of Sarah’s twin daughters has died in a horrible accident. So what happens when the remaining twin suddenly announces that they were wrong about which twin it was? This has got to be a mother/father’s worst nightmare.
As The Ice Twins progresses, the identity of the remaining twin becomes ever more blurred, Sarah and Angus’s relationship gets more rocky and more questions are raised about the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death (it’s really quite hard to explain this without giving anything away).
The book gives little peeks that things aren’t quite what they seem throughout the opening chapters – and then as the book progresses, it begins to solve some of the little mysteries. While this should clear things up, it actually leads to more questions. It is plotted out very well and keeps the reader turning the pages to find out what happens.
I felt so much sympathy for the little girl who was left – she seems so lost and things get pretty bad for her. I think the characters are relatable and well written – I definitely found I cared about their stories, especially the little girl. I did find that the dialogue in the book is written quite awkwardly in places, and at first, that was a little distracting, but once I got into the story, it was easy enough to over look.
Conclusion and Rating
The Ice Twins is a gripping story that will pull you in and not let go until you finish the book. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it. 4/5
