This week, we have Kimberly from Media Mummy taking part in the Blogger Spotlight interview.
If you would like to take part, and your blog is under six months old, or has been re-launched in the last six months, please email me randommusings29@gmail.com
1 Firstly, tell us a little bit about yourself
Well bonjour! I’m Kimberly. I’m 36, Mum to a Lego and supercar mad 3 year old boy and a very chirpy 6 month old girl who thinks napping is cheating. I’m on maternity leave from my job in television and there are matchsticks currently propping open my eyes. 3 hours 46 mins last night. Need I say more?
2 What is your blog’s name and what is it about?
I’m Media Mummy and if you fancy a nose, you’ll find a gently humorous and chatty blog about my time off on maternity leave, learning how to keep two children relatively happy and very alive, and still have a life. I like writing about the little things I’ve noticed that make parenting both hilarious and hard work. And I’m going to dabble in real life story interviews like those I used to film at work.
3 Why did you decide to start a blog?
I started a blog as I had too much time to think during night feed, and for a bit of ‘me-time’ to be honest. So I can say to my husband – “right, I’m off to the lounge to write for an hour. Please can you cook dinner tonight?” Ha. It’s also my creative outlet while my job is purely being Mummy.
4 Do you have any goals for your blog?
Not at the moment – although I’d love for it to look prettier and have more of an identity and style. Long-term, no – I’d like to just see where it takes me. If I were a loser, I’d say I’m going to let it grow ‘organically’.
5 Tell us one random fact about you
I am (was?) a ballet dancer and once danced on stage at the London Coliseum.
6 What is the best piece of blog related advice you have received so far?
Don’t worry about what your niche is. Your niche is – you.
7 What is your favourite thing about blogging?
The social networking! I’d love to say the writing element, but I’m just loving chatting to other bloggers and reading their work. It’s the most time consuming bit actually. There are so many talented, lovely parenting bloggers. That, and the way blogging makes me think differently about what I’m doing and where I’m going. It’s on my mind all the time – a healthy obsession at the moment I’d say!
8 Is there anything you would do differently if you were starting over knowing what you know now?
I’d get my head around SEO, keywords and the techy stuff sooner (saying that makes it sound like I’m all over that now, which is not the case actually… Must try harder).
9 Anything else you’d like to share with us?
Fancy half this cake? Only joking. I don’t share food.
