You all might remember a while back I reviewed No Rest For The Wicked, Dane Cobain’s debut novel, which I really enjoyed. So when he contacted me to see if I would be interested in reviewing Come On Up To The House, his new novel, of course I was happy to do so.
Come On Up To The House by Dane Cobain
Blurb from The Back Cover
This 70-80 minute long screenplay tells the story of Darran Jersey, a troubled teenager who moves into a house inhabited by the malevolent spirit of his predecessor.
As time goes by and the family begins to settle, Darran takes on more and more of the qualities of James, the dead teenager who committed a bloody suicide.
As tragedy after tragedy threatens to destroy the family, Darran’s mother Alice decides to leave the house behind and start afresh, bus is it too late?

My Thoughts on The Book
Firstly, I must confess I’m not really a fan of screenplays but that’s the beauty of this book. It contains the original screenplay but it also has a novella of the screenplay which is just written like a normal book.
I love Dane’s writing style. It’s gritty and raw and it gets straight to the point. The story moves quickly and we soon meet the entity that lives in the house.
Come On Up To The House isn’t a typical haunted house story. It’s gory and edgy and not for the faint hearted. But it’s also a story of family and the troubles that they have behind closed doors; the rebellious teenager and the younger child who just wants to be acknowledged by their older sibling.
The sense of impending doom as Darran begins to change builds quickly and keeps the reader interested. The twist towards the end is a good one that you won’t see coming.
Conclusion and Rating
I really enjoyed Come On Up To The House. It kept me interested from the beginning and I couldn’t wait to find out how it all turned out. 4/5

This sounds really good and very intriguing but I don’t think I would want to read it. I’m more of a romantic comedy kind of girl. I like to read books where I can gall asleep asleep terms dreaming of fluffy clouds and pink hearts lol. I could Total the see myself getting gripped by this but I also know I wouldn’t sleep well afterwards. I’m a bit of a 3inp when it comes to stuff like this.

This sounds great, I know what you mean about reading screen plays though. As I tried once and got fed up with it and never finished. So its good that they have addressed this.

This sounds really good, I like reading ghost stories where the characters try to resolve what’s happening. Thanks for the review!
