Are you stuck in a bit of a rut professionally or personally? I know I was this time last year. I knew what I wanted to do, I just wasn’t sure how to get there. And that’s the hardest part isn’t it? Working out how to get from A (where you are now) to B (living the dream).
Here are three ways to help you move forward with your goals and start your journey towards achieving a happy, fulfilled life:
Do Some Research
If you know exactly what it is you want to be doing with your life, the first thing to do is start to work out exactly what you need to learn or change to get yourself there.
- Do you need to be qualified?
- Do you need any experience?
- Are there any areas you don’t understand?
- What skills will you need that you might not yet have?
Knowing what you need to do is a good starting point.
Achieving your goals feels more real once you make a start and this is the first step towards living the life you want.
Get Some Help
You don’t have to do everything alone. In fact, most good business people know that they key to success is utilising the skills of others in areas they specialise in.
Once you know where you want to go, it can still be hard to look at the end goal and know exactly how and when you’re going to get there – especially if there are a lot of hurdles in your way.
This isn’t the time to quit. This is the time to get some professional help.
Life coaches are a great way to get yourself organised and work through your goals. They will help you set manageable goals that challenge you but aren’t impossible and they will help to motivate you and keep you on track.
Kini offers a great online life coaching service. They have coaches available 24/7 – all you need to do is text one of their life coaches – you can text multiple coaches until you find the right fit for you.
A lot of people still think life coaching means sitting in an office environment between 9 and 5 Monday to Friday. This isn’t the case at all any more. Kini works to fit your schedule.
Keep Moving Forward
As you start working towards achieving your goals, there will come a point where something goes wrong, or something isn’t as straight forward as you thought it would be. When you reach that stage, it is so easy to give up.
It can be tempting to just think this is too hard, or this isn’t for me. Rubbish.
If this is your dream, then it completely is for you. Don’t let a little set back throw you off course completely. Your goals and milestones are there to push you forward, not to control you. If something goes wrong, and a milestone isn’t completed on time, that doesn’t mean you should give up.
Reassess your goal’s time frame and change the plan. The aim is to keep moving forward. View your journey as a marathon, not a sprint.
Even a small step forward is something to celebrate. Those small steps all add up to make a mile. These small steps are how you will reach your destination!
Do you sometimes feel that you know where you want to go but you just aren’t sure how to get there? What holds you back? Time? Lack of motivation? Something else? Let me know in the comments 🙂

Awesome words of advice!!! thank you for sharing!
Thank you 🙂
Really wonderful advice. Just putting one foot in front of the other can really be difficult some times but it’s a shame to put the work in and then quit. I need to learn that it’s ok to ask for help and really to just keep moving forward!
Asking for help is hard but it really is good practice!
Fantastic advice. It really annoys me when people moan about life but don’t do anything about it. My biggest challenge is time which brings with it motivation challenges.
That annoys me too – I feel like shaking them lol!
I definitely need some motivational reads about now.

I think sometimes we just have phases in our life when we run out of energy. And asking for help is a biggie too, isn’t it? I think it’s a shame so many bloggers live so far away from me (I’m in Cardiff) as a regular get together to swop business ideas would be fab.
I would love that too. I’m in the North East and everything seems to be in London so I know what you mean!
Kini sounds like a fantastic service. I think it is so important that we take time to reflect and to discuss with others what our hopes and dreams are. It can really help motivate us and keep us moving forward.
I totally agree – sometimes bouncing ideas around really gets them flowing and having someone to keep you accountable can be a huge help I always find
This is such good advice! Even the best of us can lose focus sometimes. Getting help is so important to running a business. Nobody can do 100% of everything all the time. Xx #anythinggoes
Exactly – there’s always room for some help 🙂 x
I think it is great advice, in particular creating small achievable goals to celebrate progress. #AnythingGoes
These are perfect points, Debbie. Keeping moving forward can be tough when the set backs hit but as you said you have to push on. Asking for help is a good idea too. A lot of what you say here was very true of starting my blog so it really resonates with me! x
Thank you 🙂 I felt the same when I started this blog too and then again with the freelancing. I guess we’re proof that it can be done! x
Really useful tips, thanks for sharing! It’s the ‘Get Some Help’ I need to work on – terrible for doing everything myself #AnythingGoes
Thank you 🙂 I’m exactly the same and then I wonder why I never have enough time!
I think you’re so right. It can be easy to feel like you’re not getting anywhere and to just give up. The braver thing to do is to reassess and work out how to move things forward, positively.
I think you’re absolutely spot on there; it can be so tempting to just give up when things don’t feel like they’re moving forward in the way you want them to. The braver thing to do is to reassess and move on positively to achieving your goal.
Great advice! My husband is retiring out of the Army soon and is required to take classes to prepare them for when they get out. I joined him yesterday for his first class. Very informative and included these tips. Thank you for hosting. #BloggerClubUk
Great Advice but particularly the last one – keep moving forward! It’s not always easy but it’s got to be done xx #bloggerclubuk
Really useful advice and tips in your blog. The hardest part is always getting started and believing in yourself so it’s great to have you say keep going! Thank you #BloggerClubUk
I’m in a big rut when it comes to the blog and my YouTube channel as we are in the process of sorting out our imminent emigration to Portugal. I know it’s no excuse but I’m trying to juggle alot of things and keep those balls in the air that alot of times I feel like I’m failing and drowning under a never ending to-do list. Now that I’ve finished my rl job I’m hoping I can find a balance and get everything done before we move. I think I need to set some goals and work towards completing them, one at a time. #bloggerclubuk
Just breathe and tackle your to do list in small, manageable chunks. Any step forward is a good step – you’re not failing as long as you’re trying!
Great step by step to getting to where you want to be – it’s so easy to get lost, knowing you kind of know what you want to do but have no idea where to start. Thx for sharing #bloggerclubuk
Sound advice here, thanks #BloggerClubUK
Working out how to get there is definitely the hard part! Great advice – I know I am guilty of wanting to do everything myself. #BloggerClubUK
Yes- just keep moving forward- even if it is by inches.
#bloggerclubuk
Great tips there… I am stuck in a massive rut with our house. There are so many projects that need to get done and not enough time in the day to really get planning and started. And breathe… 🙂 #BloggerClubUK
Its a nightmare when you really want to get going but you don’t know where to start!
Just the motivational kick up the bum I needed today. Thanks.
#BloggerClubUK
Hi, thanks for sharing these tips. Oh and for politely prompting me and kicking back in the right direction #bloggerclubuk
Great advice! And I’m sure that a lot of bloggers, both seasoned and new, will definitely relate to this! #bloggerclubuk
I have a tendency to stay in the research stage for a long time…but it feels great to take that first step and just go for it. I mean, that’s how I ended up where I’m at now. Still have a long ways to go forward, but as long as one doesn’t give up, you are changing your own life. #bloggerclubuk
That’s really helpful advice, thank you! #BloggerClubUK
Great advice – and a lot I can relate to. I do feel like i”ve come a long way in a year. #bloggerclubuk
I am terrible for losing heart if something goes wrong so these are great points to look through and to help people focus. x
Its hard to stay motivated when things go wrong but those are the times we really need to strive to make forwards 🙂 x
I’m definitely in that rut right now – I’d love a change of career but its a huge step and there never seems to be a good time – whether financially or just having the time to pursue a change. #bloggerclubuk
It can be hard to take the first steps but you owe it yourself to do whatever makes you happy!
i hope you made it to your new role and are enjoying it! It gets a bit more complicated as parent of a young child as factors like-how can i do it around them? I am I prepared to miss out on time with them to do it? etc crop up, but I know there’ll be time for me in the future #bloggersclubuk
I’m loving it thank you 🙂 Yeah I can imagine having young children make it harder and as you say you don’t want to spend every moment working and miss out on them growing up
What a great thought provoking piece you have here. #BloggerClubUK
Celebrating the small steps is so important. So often we end up focussing on the negatives instead of the positives.
#bloggerclubuk
These are some really good tips to help change someones life for the better! thank you for sharing #anythinggoes
Popping back from #BloggersClubUK
Really motivational words, thanks for sharing. I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up, that’s my problem! So in the mean time I fill my spare time with things I love like writing my blog and interacting with the blogging community. #BloggerClubUK
That sounds good to me!
I couldn’t agree more. Great advice. #bloggerclubuk
Great breakdown of the process, thank you! For me, getting enough rest is key; without it it’s so easy to get defeatist.
I am stuck at the moving forward bit! I know what I want to do, I know how to get there but I’m struggling to find the time. I’ve never considered getting a life coach but maybe I should give it some more thought. I am sure it would be helpful for my corporate job too! Fab tips xx
It’s so hard to fit everything in sometimes! I would love a life coach! x
This is really helpful thanks, I’m thinking about getting into social media management but don’t really know where to start so know I need to do some more research first. #BloggerClubUK x
Oh that sounds like a great move! Good luck with it 🙂 x
I love how you’re always sharing tips on how to make ourselves happy. We all deserve to live our dreams. #BloggerClubUK
We really do – everyone should give themselves the chance to chase their happiness!
