Blogger Spotlight Series: A Blonde And A Baby (ablondeandababy@gmail.com)
1 Firstly, tell us a little bit about yourself
I’m Beth, I’m a twenty-something mum and I live in East Sussex. I have a daughter, Lily, who is 2 and a half. I fell pregnant with her as a happy accident, after only one month of being with my now husband! It was a crazy whirlwind start to our relationship, and it definitely put us to the test. But now we are happily married and have our beautiful girl. I’m a chocoholic, seriously addicted to the stuff. Why does something so good have to be so bad for you? I love arts and crafts and messy play. I hate soft play and am a massive germaphobe!
2 What is your blog’s name and what is it about?
My blog’s name is “A Blonde and a Baby”. It’s pretty self explanatory, I’m blonde, and I have a baby! Well, a toddler now but she’ll still always be my baby!
3 Why did you decide to start a blog?
I love writing. I studied drama & theatre studies at university and writing was a daily thing. Then I started work and it all just stopped. I feel like blogging is very therapeutic, it’s good for the soul to get our thoughts and feeling out on a page. Blogging makes me a better mum, as I reflect on things and have the amazing blogging community to support me through motherhood.
4 Do you have any goals for your blog?
This year I would like to start working with brands and build my blog into a success. I would love it if I could turn blogging into my job. Since leaving university I’ve struggled to feel like I’ve fitted into a career that suits me. Blogging feels like it’s the one for me.
5 Tell us one random fact about you
I love to act! The feeling I get when I’m in a play on the stage is such a buzz. I haven’t performed in so long, and that is definitely something I want to change.
6 What is the best piece of blog related advice you have received so far?
Relax about the numbers and just enjoy blogging for what it is. When I started in September I would write a post and then immediately look at the stats. It would get me down that only about 10 people would read a post, including my mum, husband, and best friend! Now I write a post and just enjoy hearing people’s reactions to it, I don’t really look at the stats. Since I’ve relaxed about it more opportunities have actually come my way anyway!
7 What is your favourite thing about blogging?
Being a part of the blogging community. I joined a Facebook group of bloggers and it has been a revelation! Since joining I have felt like I have so many more friends. I’m the first of my friends to have a child so it’s nice to have people around me online that are going through the same sort of things.
8 Is there anything you would do differently if you were starting over knowing what you know now?
Use the laptop rather than the phone! When I started blogging I wasn’t self hosted and just used my phone to write posts and publish them. I should have researched blogging a bit before diving in, and I would have realised it’s about so much more than just writing and popping it on a website. I do cringe at some of those old posts!
9 Anything else you’d like to share with us?
As I briefly mentioned before I love arts and crafts! I’ve only just discovered how fun it is, so I’ve been building a collection of craft posts on my blog. I try and keep them as toddler friendly as possible. Lily and I love nothing more than getting creative and making a masterpiece.
