Welcome to the Blogger Spotlight Interview. This week we have Caroline from Girl About Townhouse taking part in the Blogger Spotlight interview.
If you would like to take part, and your blog is under six months old, or has been re-launched in the last six months, please email me randommusings29@gmail.com
1 Firstly, tell us a little bit about yourself
I’m Caroline, newbie blogger, wife and mum, with a passion for all things creative. I like good coffee and I’m obsessed with interior design, DIY, craft and baking cakes. I’m also a bit of a crazy cat lady in my spare time.
2 What is your blog’s name and what is it about?
My blog is called Girl About Townhouse. As I’m in my mid-thirties, girl might be pushing it, but I do live in a townhouse at least. Over on the blog I share interior decor ideas, room makeovers, craft tutorials and recipes, all on a modest budget.
3 Why did you decide to start a blog?
I’ve enjoyed reading blogs for many years and always wanted to start my own.
I want to show people that you can still have the home you’ve always wanted, without spending a fortune! Whether that means DIY projects, upcycling or simply shopping in the right places, I’m here to help!
4 Do you have any goals for your blog?
Oh lots! I’d really like to collaborate with other bloggers and work with brands I think my readers would like. So if you tick either of those boxes, get in touch.
5 Tell us one random fact about you
I’m a little bit fanatical about America. Since the age of 21, I’ve visited at least once a year (sometimes twice), I really feel like it’s my second home! My favourite visit was a 3 week road trip along the Pacific coast. I’m still slightly resentful that my husband managed to break the convertible roof, so we didn’t get the full experience of speeding down highway 1 with the top down and the wind in our hair, but I will use it as an excuse to do it all again.
6 What is the best piece of blog related advice you have received so far?
Don’t try to do everything at once. It’s much better to focus on a couple of things and do them really well, rather than doing lots of things half-heartedly. This is actually good advice for life in general, not just blogging!
7 What is your favourite thing about blogging?
That’s a tough one. Blogging is all my favourite things rolled into one really!
Browsing Pinterest and Instagram for way too long is definitely up there, but I’d have to say writing. For the past decade I’ve been working in jobs where I do a lot of copywriting, but in a corporate, ‘on brand’ voice. It’s refreshing to finally write in my own voice and not have to throw in corporate buzzwords like I have some form of business tourette’s.
Also, I love meeting brilliant people from all over the globe from the comfort of my sofa (possibly still in my PJ’s even though it’s the middle of the day, shh don’t tell anyone).
8 Is there anything you would do differently if you were starting over knowing what you know now?
I would definitely go back in time and download the Yoast SEO plug in right from the start. Let’s just say editing 20+ blog posts, repeating keywords over and over (whilst trying not to sound repetitive) trying my hardest to make those little lights turn green is dull. Very, very dull.
9 Anything else you’d like to share with us?
Photos of my cats? Nope. Erm, why not stop by my blog and let me know what you think? I’d love to hear from you.
