Welcome to the Blogger Spotlight Interview. This week we have Lucy from Muffin Top Mummy taking part in the Blogger Spotlight interview.
If you would like to take part, and your blog is under six months old, or has been re-launched in the last six months, please email me randommusings29@gmail.com
1 Firstly, tell us a little bit about yourself
Hi there, my name is Lucy and I live in the Midlands with my husband, our 3 month old daughter and our two rabbits. I’m currently on maternity leave (yay!), but when I am at work, I’m an Insight analyst – despite the fact that I’m terrible at maths and analysis. However, I’m excellent at pretending I know what I’m doing. My secret ambition is to be a writer.
2 What is your blog’s name and what is it about?
My blog’s name is ‘muffintopmummy.com’. As you can probably tell from the title, it documents my struggle with my new, post baby body (in a hopefully humorous sort of way) and explores parenting from the perspective of a very new mother. I also like to be a little creative so expect a few poems, amusingly re-written nursery rhymes and tongue-in-cheek baby book reviews.
3 Why did you decide to start a blog?
I decided to start a blog one day in the shower as I suddenly realised that I had to do something with my free time while on maternity leave other than watching age-inappropriate TV shows with my baby. I always thought I’d write a novel while away from work, but I’ve now discovered that’s a terrible idea and I’d give up on that endeavour after a week. Blogging pretty much has me hooked though, so I’m feeling 100 times more productive.
4 Do you have any goals for your blog?
Right now, I’m working on getting it looking all sexy (as sexy as a parenting blog can be anyway), but I’d love for it to generate writing opportunities with other organisations and perhaps a little bit of pocket money. Ideally, I’d like to build a good, solid readership in the next few months – that’s my current goal.
5 Tell us one random fact about you
If I share this, you better not tell anyone. OK? OK? Good.
I may, or may not, still have my cuddly toy from when I was a child. It may, or may not, share my marital bed. And I may, or may not, need to cuddle it to fall asleep.
May not, let’s go with may not.
6 What is the best piece of blog related advice you have received so far?
Get your blog out there by being active in the blogging community. No-one will know to read it if you don’t promote it. I’ve joined loads of Linkys, Facebook groups, Twitter chats etc and commented on tonnes of blog posts that I like in order for people to get to know who I am. In my first two weeks of blogging, thanks to this advice, I had 890 blog views – which is way better than I ever expected!
7 What is your favourite thing about blogging?
I love the creativity of writing blog posts. I sit down with a few ideas, put my fingers to the laptop keys, and then suddenly I’m going in all sorts of directions I had never planned to. Blank page one minute; 30 line rhyming poem the next. I am also grateful that it has already greatly reduced my isolation – the parent blogging community really is fantastic.
8 Is there anything you would do differently if you were starting over knowing what you know now?
I’m sure I’ll have lots more answers to this question in the future, but right now, it’d be reading blogs and ‘how to’s’ for newbies before diving right in as I wasted a lot of time getting things wrong at the start. I didn’t do much homework so am having to catch up now as I go!
9 Anything else you’d like to share with us?
I’m still in the very early stages of my blogging journey – so I’m sure things will change and develop over time. If you have any advice for me (or would like to tell me how much you love my blog of course), please feel free to let me know.
10 Where can we find you? (blog link and links to any social media)
