Have you ever had one of those days where it starts out bad and then just keeps on getting worse and worse? I know I have and I believe a lot of it is about our mind set. If something goes wrong early on, it puts us in mind for that to keep happening. If we have a good start to the day, we have a more positive out look.
So how do we turn a bad day into a good one?
Here are three techniques to break the negativity and get your day back on track:
Switch Tasks
Have a look over your day’s to do list. Is there something you can switch out with the task that’s causing you a problem? Switching to another task (ideally one you enjoy doing or are particularly good at) can re-program your brain into positive thoughts instead of waiting for the next thing to go wrong.
By the time you arrive back at the problematic task, your mind will be clear and you will most often find that you complete the task quickly and easily.
Get Some Fresh Scenery
When things start going wrong, it can be tempting to push through. If you don’t do this, it’s not quitting, it’s taking some time out to get your mind focussed.
Go outside and have a brisk walk, or go into a different room and have a cup of tea or coffee. If this isn’t possible, even walking around the room for a couple of minutes and stretching your legs while ignoring the task momentarily can help.
Think Positive Thoughts
I know this one is a bit of a cliché, but it really can change how you view your day. Suddenly, the thing that’s gone wrong goes from an earth shattering event to a minor inconvenience that you quickly fix.
Tell yourself that you can do it and you will do it. And if necessary, give yourself a little pep talk. The pull up your big girl panties and get down to it.
If you really can’t find the positive, even just telling yourself that tomorrow will be better is a start.
