Welcome to the Blogger Spotlight Interview. This week we have Susie from So Happy in Town taking part in the Blogger Spotlight interview.
If you would like to take part, and your blog is under six months old, or has been re-launched in the last six months, please email me randommusings29@gmail.com
1 Firstly, tell us a little bit about yourself
I live in west London with my husband and three children. I moved down from Scotland 20 years ago, thinking I’d try it for a year, and I just never moved back. I worked in the city for years then trained as a primary teacher.
I’ve always loved to write though, so I started to focus more on that in the last few years, and started my blog in January, which I’m very excited about.
2 What is your blog’s name and what is it about?
So Happy in Town / S.H.I.T. is a parenting & lifestyle blog for the S.H.I.T. and proud.
Basically, it’s all in the name – we all know life can be great with kids but there are tough times too, i.e. shit happens and that’s just life. So, it’s sharing the highs and lows and being able to laugh, and sometimes cry.
I also review restaurants, theatre, events and travel with or without kids, and am starting a feature interviewing various inspiring S.H.I.T. women.
3 Why did you decide to start a blog?
I just love to write. It’s when I can escape and lose myself. I’d been writing features for magazines and had so much I wanted to say about everyday life for parents.
I kept thinking, instead of having to sell ideas to editors, why don’t I make myself the editor, then I can use my blog as a platform to write whatever I want?
4 Do you have any goals for your blog?
My main goal is to touch as many people as possible. There’s no bigger buzz for me than people saying they love my writing and look forward to my next post. It means a lot when they say they can completely relate to something I’ve written. If I can raise awareness or help anyone through my writing, then that makes it all worthwhile.
5 Tell us one random fact about you
I used to fancy all the bad guys that nobody else did – Adam Carrington, Ivan Lendl, B.A. Baracus. Maybe that’s why I ended up with Mr S.H.I.T!
6 What is the best piece of blog related advice you have received so far?
To not give up. Keep going and not get caught up with stats. As long as it’s feeling good, then carry on.
7 What is your favourite thing about blogging?
I love hitting that publish button and feeling that I’ve written a post I’m proud of.
Also, I’ve already ‘virtually’ met lots of lovely fellow bloggers. There’s a real feeling of warmth and support out there. Everyone wants to help promote each other as much as possible, which is refreshing as it can be so different in other industries.
8 Is there anything you would do differently if you were starting over knowing what you know now?
I’m still learning every day, but I’d probably have more of a scheduling plan on posts. But I’m a bit impulsive anyway so that’s probably going to be how I always work.
9 Anything else you’d like to share with us?
Big thanks to all those bloggers like Random Musings who host linkys. They are a huge help to newbies like me by giving our blogs exposure, and other bloggers are so supportive in their comments.
10 Where can we find you?
My blog, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest
