Lately I don’t know why but snippets of poetry (or more accurately in my case a couple of lines that rhyme) keep coming to me. It seems a terrible waste not to share them so I’m just kind of rolling with it.
Ages ago, I wrote a parody poem called An Ode to The Horror Movie and more of these ideas kept popping into my head.
So many that I wrote a book.
Yes, that’s right, I have released a poetry book (or more accurately, a book of funny rhymes).
It’s due to be released on August 6th, but it’s available for pre-order now and is only 99p/99c. Order your copy of Parodies and Piss Takes now.
An Ode to The Romance Genre
Their eyes meet for the first time,
She thinks “My God, he’s hot”,
Then he starts to talk to her,
And she sees that nice he’s not.
She still finds herself wanting him,
The chemistry is strong,
But really he’s a douchebag,
And going there would be wrong.
They argue, fight and hate each other,
But have some hot sex too,
He tells her he is broken,
And she asks “because of who?”
Suddenly he’s not so bad,
Or at least not to her,
We wonder how he changed so much,
And if they’ll make a decent pair.
The hearts and flowers rain on them,
She really is so happy,
She spends some time just wondering,
Why she thought he was so crappy.
Cue some big disaster,
That pulls the pair apart,
She wonders how he held on so tight,
But still could break her heart.
Of course he isn’t going to,
It can all be explained away,
She packs her bags to leave him,
But his explanation saves the day.
She sees that he isn’t trouble,
He’s just misunderstood,
All is right with the world again,
As our heroine bags her stud.
They walk into the sunset,
It’s really getting dafter,
He’s like a different person now,
But who cares, it’s a happy ever after!

Very funny! I think you encapsulated the worst kind of romances. But fans of the genre would appreciate it as a gentle pisstake, I think. Best of luck with the book – sounds fun!

I used to love reading those books when I was a teenager/young adult. Now I look at them and can’t believe I used to read them, lol! Love your book Debbie! #anythinggoes

That’s brilliant. I don’t know about you but I find writing poems incredibly therapeutic. I wrote our wedding stationery in poetry and really enjoyed it. People were really nice about it too.
