Welcome to the Blogger Spotlight Interview. This week we have Will and Sam from Will and Sam’s Fam taking part in the Blogger Spotlight interview.
If you would like to take part, and your blog is under six months old, or has been re-launched in the last six months, please email me randommusings29@gmail.com
1 Firstly, tell us a little bit about yourself
We are parenting and lifestyle bloggers living in New England with our two kids, Junior (age five) and Addy (age two, but she tells everyone she’s four).
Will’s dream job is to be a stay home dad, but that doesn’t pay as well as he’d like it to, so he got a PhD in physics instead.
Sam’s currently a stay at home mom who ironically spends very little time at home. Between trips to soccer practice, dance class, running camp, and play dates she runs an in-home hair salon.
2 What is your blog’s name and what is it about?
Our blog’s name is Will and Sam’s Fam.
We write about the world of parenting from a fun, light-hearted perspective. Our site’s tagline is “Parenting tips, thoughts, and adventures from two parents who have no idea what they are doing.”
In addition to blogging about parenting, we also tell the comical story about how we met, started dating, and eventually got married in a weekly piece titled, “Our Story.”
3 Why did you decide to start a blog?
We find incredible joy in family life and we wanted to share that joy with others.
4 Do you have any goals for your blog?
Our main goal is to inspire and entertain other young parents by sharing our experiences.
5 Tell us one random fact about you
We only dated for four months before we got engaged. We got married three months after that. Everything went so fast that we barely had time to get out invitations and plan a reception.
6 What is the best piece of blog related advice you have received so far?
The best blogging advice we’ve received is “don’t suck at pinning” – in other words, don’t make amateur looking Pinterest pins.”
Pinterest is a powerful tool to generate blog traffic (and it’s our favourite social media platform), but it’s only going to help if you make visually appealing, professional-looking pins.
7 What is your favourite thing about blogging?
We love getting feedback from our readers. It’s so encouraging as a blogger to know that people are reading what you write and that it’s making a difference in their life.
8 Is there anything you would do differently if you were starting over knowing what you know now?
Yes, so many things.
The biggest blogging lesson we’ve learned is to focus on just one social media platform. Social media is a great way to promote your blog, but it just takes too much time to actively promote on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google +, etc. every day (especially when you’re already working a full time job and raising kids).
After we decided to focus on promoting through Pinterest while doing minimal work to maintain a presence on other social media sites, we generated more traffic to our site and we had more time to produce quality content.
9 Anything else you’d like to share with us?
Will is a Huffington Post blogger.
10 Where can we find you? (blog link and links to any social media)
