You all know by now that I am pretty obsessed with books, so I was really happy to be tagged in the mid-year freak out tag which is all about books.
I was tagged by the lovely Emma-Louise from Read, Write, Inspire. Thanks for the tag Emma-Louise.
Here goes:
1 Best books you’ve read so far in 2017
Eve and Adam by Michael Grant and Katherine Applegate, Cell 7 by Kerry Drewery and 1984 by George Orwell
2 Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2017
Silver Stars by Michael Grant which is the second book in the Front Lines trilogy
3 New release you haven’t read yet but want to
Week 7 by Kerry Drewery. This is the sequel to Cell 7. I have already bought the book but I haven’t had a chance to read it yet because I’ve had a big list of review requests to read first, but I’m almost done with them.
4 Most anticipated release in the 2nd half of the year.
Magnus Chase and The Ship of the Dead by Rick Riordan, which is the third book in the Magnus Chase series and is due out in October.
5 Biggest disappointment
I’ve been lucky so far this year and haven’t really read anything that disappointed me. In the past, I’ve struggled through books I haven’t been enjoying because I want to finish them.
Now I have a new philosophy – life is too short for bad books.
If a book doesn’t grab me in the first couple of pages, I move on.
6 Biggest surprise
For me, the biggest surprise was how much I enjoyed George Orwell’s 1984. I decided I needed to read a classic or two, and this one appealed to me based on the story line.
I expected it to be hard work, but it really wasn’t. It read very similar to the YA books I enjoy reading and I really enjoyed it.
7 Fav new author
Adele Parks – Although she isn’t new as an author, I first discovered her late last year and I’m loving her writing.
8 Fav new crush
I have a huge thing for anti-heroes. The misunderstood type who many see as evil. Although they tend to do terrible things, it’s always for the right reasons. Seriously, a shrink would have a field day with me.
Unfortunately, I haven’t read any books with a good anti-hero this year so none.
9 Fav new characters
I’m loving Rainy from the Front Lines series. She is intelligent and brave and doesn’t let anything stop her.
For some reason, I always picture her to look like Spencer Hastings from Pretty Little Liars, so imagine Spencer without any of the annoying parts and to be totally fearless and you’ve got Rainy.
10 Book that made you cry
I think I was about 15 the last time a book actually made me cry. I do sometimes get a lump in my throat, but I’m not really a crier at books, shows or movies.
11 Book that made you happy
The types of books I read don’t tend to be all happiness and sunlight. I love a book that makes me think long after I’ve put it down, so I guess that makes me happy, in which case, it would be 1984 which could happen all too easily.
12 Most beautiful book you’ve bought this year
All books are beautiful in their own way – from the smell to the effort that’s gone into their design.
13 What books do you need to read before the end of the year?
Oh loads! Animal Farm, The Bell Jar, The Handmaid’s Tale, Monster, Week 7, Whatever it Takes, Magnus Chase two and three, and about thirty others that I can’t think of right now.
If you want to take part, consider yourself tagged.
What’s the best book you’ve read so far this year? Let me know in the comments 🙂

I love books. My Kindle was so worn out that the page turn buttons stopped functioning. Hubster was VERY impressed. So was Amazon! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Wow that is impressive!
The Mummy Bubble
Always love to have some book recommendations! The Handmaid’s Tale is brilliant, in fact I must read it again having just watched the TV series. #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
I bought the book after all the hype about the TV show. I didn’t watch the show because I want to read the book first
Steph
I haven’t read enough this year but would recommend Animal Farm if you haven’t read already and want some more modern classics! #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Oh I have that one but haven’t read it yet! Think it might be getting bumped up the list a bit, thanks 🙂
Annabel
I think 1984 should be compulsory reading! #Bloggerclubuk
Kate
Some great book ideas. I also love 1984 but have not read it in a while so might re-visit it! #BloggerClubUK

I’ve been tagged in this too, I’m posting it over the weekend!
I just reread The Handmaid’s Tale after watching the tv adaptation…still one of my favourites. 1984 is a favourite too.
I admire your take on bad books, though I’ll admit once I start one I do tend to struggle through. Even the rare ones I quit on are still sitting on my bookcase to try again!

Oh I’ll look out for it!
It just takes me too long to get through a book if I’m not enjoying it – and I always think I could have read two or three good books instead
Becky, Cuddle Fairy
These are some great recommendations here. I haven’t read a book in a long time – plenty of blogs but no books – I will look into these xx
Debbie, My Random Musings
I love getting lost in a good book!
Musings of a tired mummy...zzz...
I love this insight into your reading habits! I know you’ve commented on my Best Day Ever by Kaira Rouda review: it’s got an anti hero for yu! #bloggerclubuk

Haha, I hope so, I’ve ordered it!

Love your philosophy around life too short for bad books. I could apply that to a lot of things in my life! x
Debbie, My Random Musings
Yes, me too! x
Madeline (This Glorious Life)
I’m slightly ashamed to admit that I’ve not read any of the books you’ve listed, and there are several authors you mentioned that are new to me. I tend to go through phases of reading a lot and then phases of barely reading at all! x #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
I read constantly lol!
