So many people look at autumn as an end as trees shed their leaves and winter draws in.
But it doesn’t have to be an end – it is equally a beginning.
The beginning of moving out the old to make room for the new; of cleansing ourselves of whatever obstacles we have faced and going into a new year ready our new beginning.
I was thinking earlier about autumn being a time for reflection and embracing nature’s philosophy of removing the old, withering leaves to make room for new, thriving shoots.
And I was inspired to write this poem.
I hope you enjoy it.
Autumn: A Season for Reflection
As autumn descends upon us,
And the season starts to change,
All around us is the beauty,
That Mother Nature does arrange.
The burnt and crispy oranges,
Every shade of brown,
The bright and flaming reds,
Around us all rain down.
As one year’s leaves are falling,
They open up the door,
To the promise of next spring,
And hopefully many more.
With winter fast approaching,
Bringing with it the cold and snow,
Thoughts turn to open fireplaces,
Our cheeks rosy in the glow.
And then it will be springtime,
The season of life anew,
And the cycle will begin again,
As they always do.
So don’t think of autumn as the end,
Think of it as the start,
Of moving out all of the old,
To bring wonder to our heart.
As the clocks turn backwards,
And the winter nights grow cold,
Surround yourself with warmth and love,
And the falling leaves of gold.
Look upon the falling leaves,
As they float on down to Earth,
The bare tree branches signalling,
That they’re ready for rebirth.
To replace the old and dying,
With something new and bright,
To chase away the darkness,
With the power of the light.
We learn so much from the season’s change,
Shedding the old and embracing the new,
Let go of old anxieties,
And make room for a more confident you.
Follow autumn’s example,
And by the time we’re ready for spring,
You too will be ready,
To grow your brand new thing.

Yes, I tend to agree with you about Autumn. And I must compliment you on your poem. I’ve seen so many poems lately where the lines rhyme, but the rhythm of those lines is rather haphazard. Yours was excellent.
