I know we’re not supposed to judge a book by it’s cover, but I went to my local library last week for the first time in years and the cover of Eeny Meeny caught my eye. M J Arlidge is a new author to me so I thought I’d give it a go.
Here’s my review:
Review: Eeny Meeny by M J Arlidge
Blurb from The Back Cover
The girl emerged from the woods, barely alive. Her story was beyond belief, but it was true. Every dreadful word of it.
Days later, another desperate escapee is found – and a pattern is emerging. Pairs of victims are being abducted, imprisoned and then face with a terrible choice: kill or be killed.
Would you rather lose your life or lose your mind?
Detective Inspector Helen Grace has faced down her own demons on her rise to the top. As she leads the investigation to hunt down this unseen monster, she learns that it may be the survivors – living calling cards – who hold the key to the case.
And unless she succeeds, more innocents will die…
My Thoughts on The Book
Helen is the typical crime novel cop – ruthless, determined, and a high flyer with a troubled past. She is likeable if frustrating at times.
I really liked the twist that the people who are abducted are given their own choice on which of them lives and which of them dies, and the parts where we see these scenarios are gripping.
The plot has a lot of twists and turns and plenty of red herrings. Some of it you will see coming, some of it you won’t.
The book is fast paced and well written.
Conclusion and Rating
I really enjoyed this book, and I will be looking out for more from this author. 4/5.

I find the cover is what draws me to a book too. Obviously the blurb has to then hold my interest. This sounds like a great crime novel. #bloggerclubuk

The cover is always the first thing to grab my attention too, then I’ll usually read reviews and decide whether it’s for me or not. #BloggerClubUK

Hi, as you say you not meant to judge a book by its cover but I was drawn to it and thought I would like it. Following your review its on my list now #BloggerClubUK

I think I’ve read this one. I am terrible; I read quickly getting through a book in a couple of days but then I forget some of the more unforgettable ones! I love horror or Crime as a genre too. I do remember this one being good. I’ve just read Behind her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough which I loved. #bloggerclubuk

Ha ha when I saw the thumbnail for this post I thought to myself I know you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover but…. then I clicked through and you had said the same thing!! #bloggerclubuk

This book looks right up my street! I’m going to add it to my ‘to read’ list 😁 I don’t seem to have a spare second at the moment to read but when I do, I really want to read this one. Thanks for sharing xx #BloggerClubUK

It’s great when we find a book that we can really get on board with. #BloggerClubUK

I always judge a book by it’s cover! 🙂 Then I borrow it, never find time to read it, forget to return it and get fleeced with fees 🙁 I’ve signed up for audio books now instead and have got through 3 in a week!! 🙂 #BloggerClubUK

Haha I’ve been caught out with that one a fair few times. I can’t seem to get away with audio books – for some reason I lose the story when it’s being read aloud (I’m weird lol)
Musings of a tired mummy...zzz...
This sounds like my kind of book! I will search for it (I am currently reading a chick lit so would be nice to have a thriller to follow it up ) #bloggerclubuk
