Welcome to the Blogger Spotlight Interview. This week we have Suzie from Cinnamon Sunrise taking part in the Blogger Spotlight interview.
If you would like to take part, and your blog is under six months old, or has been re-launched in the last six months, please email me randommusings29@gmail.com
1 Firstly, tell us a little bit about yourself
Hi. My name is Suzie. I’m a Project Manager by day, and I write a ‘how to adult’ blog by night.
I enjoy hiking through random landscapes, playing video games until 3am, high quality tea, watching birds in the back garden, feminist literary criticism of pop-culture, zombie movies, and the Oxford comma.
2 What is your blog’s name and what is it about?
My blog is called Cinnamon Sunrise and it’s about ‘how to be a grown-up’.
Basically, it’s all the things I wish I had known in my twenties. It covers health, money, career, relationships and social skills… with the aim to help you live every part of your life with intention and purpose.
3 Why did you decide to start a blog?
I’ve always loved writing. As a teenager I ran a video game blog that was quite popular among fans. Over time I moved into digital marketing roles, and my blogging became more professional.
I stopped blogging for fun, but I realised recently how much I missed it. I dithered for a while about what I should write about, but in the end picked something that would give me quite a lot of variety… while still (I hope) giving people something interesting and useful to read.
4 Do you have any goals for your blog?
Yup. I want my blog to help people. I would love to give the advice to someone that helps them finally land that dream career job, or just give them that little bit on insight into approaching a relationship problem in a different way.
More pragmatically, I would like to be reaching over 5,000 monthly page views by Easter 2018. My long term goal is to earn an income from my blog, but I know the first part is to build traffic.
5 Tell us one random fact about you
My all-time favourite book is Winter’s Tale by Mark Helprin. I think it’s beautiful. I read it whenever I am sad, and it reminds me that life is an incredible and awe-inspiring thing.
6 What is the best piece of blog related advice you have received so far?
Focus on one social media platform at a time. Trying to establish yourself everywhere is overwhelming.
I would also add some advice of my own, which is ‘join blogger groups’. Other bloggers have been so helpful and generous with their time and knowledge.
7 What is your favourite thing about blogging?
I can write things that anyone can read, no matter where they are or who they are. I love that. I can reach people that I would never otherwise connect with.
8 Is there anything you would do differently if you were starting over knowing what you know now?
I would have started earlier.
I also would have waited a little longer before launching, and got a few bits and pieces sorted out first – like my email sign-up, which ended up taking me several weeks to figure out. I also spent ages messing around with my social media accounts trying to get the right usernames.
9 Anything else you’d like to share with us?
You can live your life however you want, so try and live in a way that makes you happy. We can get so overwhelmed by the ‘I should be doing x’ thoughts. You don’t HAVE to do anything that doesn’t make you happy.
I spent a long time making myself miserable by trying to achieve what I thought I should be achieving. These days I am much more relaxed and true to myself.
10 Where can we find you? (blog link and links to any social media)
