We’ve hit the point in the month now where you’ve probably cheated on your New Year’s resolutions and are contemplating just giving up on them altogether.
Ask yourself this:
Are you giving up because you’ve realised you don’t really care about the resolution, or are you giving up because it’s hard?
If it’s the first one, then that’s great – who wants to waste time and energy on things they don’t care about? But if it’s the second one, before you write your resolutions off, think about why you made them and why you want to achieve what you want to achieve.
Here are five reasons to stick to your resolutions and make 2018 your year:
If Not Now, Then When?
If you keep putting off striving for what you really want, it’s going to get to the point where you are sitting in your rocking chair, looking back on your life and wishing you had done something different with your life. Looking back on my life with regret is something I fear greatly, which is why I choose to take action now.
Because You Owe It To Yourself To At Least Try
Regardless of what some people seem to think, the world doesn’t owe you anything. But you do. You owe it to yourself to live your best life. No one else is going to do it for you, and the truth is, if they could, it would be doing you a disservice. The things we work for are always going to be more valuable to us than anything we’re just handed.
To Inspire Those Around You To See That Anything is Possible
Of course you should be aiming to reach your goals for yourself – you have nothing to prove to anyone else. But what about your children? Your nephews and nieces? Show them that with hard work, you really can do anything you set your mind to. Inspire the next generation to see that hard work pays off.
To Make A Difference
Maybe your goal isn’t going to change the world, but it can change your world. Achieving the things you want to achieve can make a mundane life exciting again. This might not seem that big, but if we all did the things we love, we’d all be a lot happier, and that alone could make the world a better, less hateful place.
Because You Deserve to Be Happy
Everyone deserves to be happy and content in their lives – and that includes you. If making a change and chasing your dreams will make you happy, then that alone is a good enough reason to do it. You deserve happiness and you deserve a fulfilling life filled with days you look forward to and challenges you thrive on.
What are you waiting for? Dig out that notebook and re-evaluate your goals now to get back on track. Make 2018 your year.

I avoid making New Year’s resolutions, so I never have to worry about breaking them. And no, I’m not implying that I’m perfect and never need to change. But whenever I think of something I do that needs to stop, I try to quit it right then and there. Why wait until the first of the next year?

Good point!

I used to set too many goals and then get easily discouraged when they didn’t happen quickly enough. I don’t do that anymore! #AnythingGoes

I felt like I coasted through last year, mainly due to being grounded by PND. This month hasn’t been the refreshing start as I had hoped but it’s spurred me on big time! #AnythingGoes

Hopefully things will get better 🙂 There’s still time to make this your year!

See, I don’t see it as only a January thing that the resolutions have to be started by this month and if they aren’t then don’t bother. Of course my goals are things that I know will take me a few months to fulfill (like getting a new car). There are things that take time. I always get flabbergasted by those who set exercise goals but then give up half way through because they aren’t seeing results. These things take time. It’s not going to happen in one fell swoop. But I also believe that if you want something bad enough, not only do you start it as soon as you are able but you stick to it for as long as it takes to complete.Great tips Debbie! Love them all:) #anythinggoes

I totally agree – it’s never too late to turn the year around, even if it’s October!

We need to push on and not let excuses slow us down! #anythinggoes

I don’t make resolutions as I don’t think they are helpful. What I do think is helpful is starting where you are and build on what makes you feel better about yourself. Look for those moments and remember them. #anythinggoes

The key is not to have too many goals as that is self-defeating. Quality over quantity. And to make sure they are balanced across all areas of your life. #AnythingGoes

I’m doing well with my goals so far. 38K words into a new novel and counting. 🙂

That’s amazing, well done 🙂

I never make resolutions but will admit that I am hoping for a better 2018 than last year. Not just hoping, but working to make it happen #anythinggoes
