How could I let Valentine’s Day go by without a little poem? But how can I, a self professed Valentine’s Day cynic (read why here), write a slushy poem for the day?
Well the answer is I can’t. So I thought I’d do this instead:
Stop Wasting Money!
The day of love is almost here,
But is it really fair,
To expect everyone to pay double,
And get the exact same share.
Marketed as your girlfriend’s day,
It forces you to spend,
Money on chocolate, flowers and more,
Where oh where will it end?
We’re really not all gold diggers,
Wanting a diamond of our own,
In fact, we’d probably prefer it,
If you’d just sit and listen to us moan.
So guys, put that wallet away,
And instead consider this,
Show your girl you care every day,
With a hug and maybe a kiss.
Forget society’s expectations,
And do this your own way,
Otherwise all you do,
Is say happy Hallmark day.
Happy Valentine’s Day 😉

This is the perfect time of year for cynicism!
And by the way, it’s perfectly permissible to slap the crap out of anyone who says “Valentimes Day” instead of “Valentine’s Day!”

Very good! I share the sentiment. IN fact my wife’s birthday is the week after Valentines so we have an agreement that I don’t buy her flowers for the 14th, but a week later at half the price – Win/Win as far as we’re concerned!

Oh totally agree!
I woke up to a cuppa in bed (it’s half term after all!) and that was perfect for me pin fact I’m still in bed blogging! It’s gone too far and that’s such a shame. #bloggerclubuk

I love this! The Mr makes me a cuppa each morning, does school runs, all the shopping & more why do I need overpriced gifts to prove he loves me? Great poem 🙂 #BloggerClubUK

We have a special meal but it is always at home and a bottle of bubbles and we are more than happy with that #bloggerclubuk

Ha ha. I’m mid way between total cynicism and totally loving it. #fortheloveofBLOG

Oh, you cynic! No, seriously, I agree with you that romance shouldn’t be limited to one day a year. Chocolates every day FTW! I kid. Mostly. #BloggerClubUK

I’m really not a fan either. But this morning my husband presented me with a card and flowers, I’d got him nothing. All I could think was what a waste of money! #BloggerClubUK

Right on target!….I am so lucky to be blessed with a partner who remembers to show his love every single day.

I allow my hubby to get me some tasty chocolates, that’s all. If we weren’t on a pretty tight budget I’d be happy to accept flowers and maybe even a card, too, but as you say, feeling loved and appreciated on a more regular basis is much more valuable than any Valentine’s gifts x

To me having him help with the household chores if far better than flowers or chocolate! #bloggerclub

I really love this! I’m known as a Valentines Scrooge by my children because I won’t buy daddy a valentines card. Your poem put a smile on my face this Valentines day so thank you 🙂 #bloggerclubuk

I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂

Couldn’t agree more! Ive a post on my instagram that says something similar. The only thing I like valentines for is buying my son a cute little something. My son and daughter (aged 3 and 8 weeks) had some flowers delivered to me which i thought was very clever and thoughtful. Unexpected too! #BloggerClubUK

Aww it’s really sweet when they’re from the little ones

I agree completely, maybe one day I would love some flowers but I would like them on a random day instead of one which charges so much extra. #BloggerClubUK

You have summe it up nicely, very true #BloggerClubUK

Yeah, I’m not a fan of Valentine’s Day but I have the other half suitably trained (i.e. we ignore it!) so all is good. 🙂

I like Valentine’s Day but then I enjoy any celebration there is going. I have had many times being single at this time, some married some divorced. A real mixed bag but all ok.

Oh Man I love it!! Happy Hallmark Day. I’m laughing so hard right now because it’s so true. And I never understood why this had to be a day where the man has to pay for these extravagant things for the woman. What about him? In a way I guess you could say Valentine’s Day is a little sexist lol. That sounds too political though so I’ll shut up. #BloggerClubUK

I agree – the whole thing makes women look like total gold diggers and it irritates me!

Well said #BloggerClubUK
Musings of a tired mummy...zzz...
I would much rather have a surprise present of flowers/chocs at other times of years instead of a feeling of being obligated #bloggerclubuk
