Welcome to the Blogger Spotlight Interview. This week we have Emma from The Cubkit taking part.
If you would like to take part, and your blog is under six months old, or has been re-launched in the last six months, please email me randommusings29@gmail.com
1 Firstly, tell us a little bit about yourself
I’m Emma, I’m 32 and live in Leeds with my husband and our two boys. Jack is 3, and George is nearly 1-year-old.
I’ve worked as a writer for a number of years and since having my boys I have been braving the world of freelancing and blogging.
2 What is your blog’s name and what is it about?
The blog is CubKit designed to help mums and dads survive the world of parenting.
The blog contains informative articles on a range of topics including antenatal, postnatal, breastfeeding, postnatal depression, recipes, days out, craft ideas, baking and more.
I will also put together kit guides to help parents become equipped with everything they need through pregnancy, labour, the newborn days and beyond.
3 Why did you decide to start a blog?
Having a baby can be a wonderful and magical time, but, it can also be completely overwhelming too.
I’ve encountered many struggles including practical things such as wondering what buggy to buy or how to sterilise and make up a bottle. I didn’t know when I should give my baby his first bath, wondered whether not ever wanting to go to baby groups was normal. I had so many questions and I often struggled to find practical and impartial advice that I could gel with.
Speaking to my friends I realised I wasn’t alone in thinking like this and so CubKit was born.
4 Do you have any goals for your blog?
To grow the blog and help parents feel less overwhelmed.
Mental health is also a big interest of mine having suffered from postnatal depression, so I will be writing about this too in a bid to raise awareness.
5 Tell us one random fact about you
If you hum me a tune, I’ll play it on the piano.
6 What is the best piece of blog related advice you have received so far?
To create a content schedule – something I’m still working on.
7 What is your favourite thing about blogging?
Can I name two things? Writing and connecting with other bloggers.
8 Is there anything you would do differently if you were starting over knowing what you know now?
I’d have done it earlier.
I’d also set up social media channels sooner, I’m on Twitter but I’m keen to get to grips with Instagram and Pinterest too.
9 Anything else you’d like to share with us?
If you’re thinking of starting a blog then go for it. There is a wonderful community of bloggers who are there to help and learn from.
Try and set up the backend stuff straight away and look into social media automation so you don’t have to spend all day on your phone/iPad/laptop tweeting. Put these things in place and the rest will hopefully be easier to manage.
10 Where can we find you? (blog link and links to any social media)
My blog and Twitter.
