Welcome to this year’s A-Z Blogging Challenge. My theme for this year is character prompts. Each day throughout April, you’ll find a new character prompt that relates to that day’s letter.
Day Thirteen: M – Memories
Choose a childhood memory for your character to reflect on.
What is the memory?
How did it make the character feel at the time? Do they feel differently about it now?
Does looking back on their childhood make them happy or sad? Why?
Did the event you chose shape their character in any way? How?
Would your character change the memory if they could? Why?
I’d love to read some of the scenarios you create. Email them to me at debbie@myrandommusings.co.uk and I’ll share some of my favourites over the coming months here on the blog.

I’m going back to copy all of your prompts and questions in a notebook for future use, in case I want to try my hand at writing. Thanks!
I hope they help 🙂

Yes, I’m noting this one for later too… really enjoying your prompts! YAM xx
I’m glad you’re enjoying them 🙂 x
Memories of the past shape our present, whether they are good or bad! Some memories make for fabulous stories. Thanks for this wonderful prompt, Debbie!
So true!
The other day I wrote about a summer camp with one of my best friends. I should go back to that piece and continue working on it.
Sounds like a nice memory 🙂
These are good in novels–kind of like flashbacks. I have to be careful though to weave them in authentically!
Yeah, that’s a trick in itself isn’t it!
Ha! It is difficult to do these prompts in the middle of AtoZ but I think it will definitely be helpful in creating short stories or even characters in a novel. I might even use this one about a “childhood memory” as a prompt for an upcoming poem.
Yeah there’s already a lot going on! I’d love to read the poem when you do have time to write it 🙂
This is a really neat idea. I should spend more time developing backstories for my characters, even if those stories don’t ever impact “current” events. Though, I wonder how those memories would turn out to change the story… Thought provoking, for sure!

I like to know my characters inside and out before I start writing and then I can mostly sit back and let them tell the story!
This is used so often in books I read, such a good way of developing a character. #bloggerclubUK
These are great I do not write. It it’s got me thinking about it, how great is that #bloggerclubuk
Go for it, you might find you love it!
I’m going to have to take note of your prompts for when I decide to write a more novel type book. Illustrating my own children’s book was not easy because I am not really an illustrator, just self-taught. But I think to write a book without pictures would be a bigger challenge because I will only have words to paint the pictures for the readers. #bloggerclubuk
I think both have their own challenges, although I wouldn’t even begin to tackle illustrations! Hope your book is doing well
I do not write but these are great prompts to note.
Thanks!

I feel like it should be a horrid memory but I only have lovely ones growing up…..swinging on a tree? Rolling down a grassy bank? Love these! #bloggerclubuk
I have memories of sunshine as it has been a long time until today that I have experienced it on my face X #bloggerclubuk
Memories of snow, so recent, and yet spring has finally broken through #BlogClubUK
I have memories mainly of being outdoors, playing out and about and riding for miles on my bike #bloggerclubuk
Like the idea of prompts to create your characters #bloggerclubuk
This is a great idea for a challenge, I’m almost tempted to create a character to write about…if only I had a few more hours in the day! #bloggerclubuk
This is a great idea, I’d not seen any of your posts before. I’ll keep them in mind, I will definitely write a book one day! #BloggerClubUK
