Welcome to this year’s A-Z Blogging Challenge. My theme for this year is character prompts. Each day throughout April, you’ll find a new character prompt that relates to that day’s letter.
Day Twenty-Six: Z – Zombie Apocalypse
Your character finds themselves in the middle of a zombie outbreak.
Are they prepared for it?
How do they react? Do they hide? Fight?
What’s their chances of survival and how would they attempt to survive it?
Would they team up with others or go it alone?
I’d love to read some of the scenarios you create. Email them to me at debbie@myrandommusings.co.uk and I’ll share some of my favourites over the coming months here on the blog.
If you enjoy these exercises and you want more creative writing prompts, writing tips and support, join The Writer’s Den group on Facebook now.

“Zombies? No, I don’t do zombies,” remarked Boon into the phone. “Outbreak – what outbreak?” The voice coming back at him from the handset was less than calm. The words caused him to look out the window just as – it – was looking back in. Not just one it either. A veritable outbreak of its.
Well, this was a rum-doo and not doubt about it. Boon dropped the phone and moved over to The Button. Mr President had been quite clear on the line. Even if less than calm. The Button had to be pressed. Forget protocols. Forget codes or keys. Just do it to the its and save mankind from certain afterdeath. Boon hesitated. Wasn’t this a bit baby and bathwater? Well, not for the President, of course. He was in his bunker being less than cool. All his family and cronies too, for sure.
Boon sounded the klaxon and the lead shutters snapped into place. Outside several of the its were no more. Decapitation worked that way on them. Not that Boon saw this. All he could hope for was that everyone with access to bunkers had hunkered down.
He pressed The Button.

I hate the idea of a zombie apocalypse! Zombies are the worst. But they do make for a good story!

My absolute favorite topic. I’ve written many blog posts on zombie scenarios. I want to write a new one now! #AnythingGoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
Do it!

I’m not a zombie apocalypse kind of person. This one would be super tricky for me! #AnythingGoes
Sophie
Love that, Yamini!
Another good ‘un Debbie! #anythinggoes

I feel the simple solution to overcoming zombie attacks it to burry everyone with their shoes tied together. The zombies will keep tripping over their shoes and you are able to run away. #anythinggoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
Haha I love this solution – so simple, so elegant and so damned effective!

This is one that would really appeal to my kids #A nythingGoes
Patricia Lynne

I just don’t feel the Zombie love!
The Silver Fox
Prepared? Ha. Who on Earth would be prepared for a zombie outbreak? (Reminds me of the Monty Python routine, “No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!”)
Debbie, My Random Musings
Yeah I honestly think even the so called preppers would be unprepared if it happened for real!
Michelle | The Willow Tree
It’s central London and pitch black. My character has woken up in her car to nothing. Still. Darkness. Apart from something. Something is moving and its a creature of some sort. On closer look she sees it her work colleague…or is it?? #Anythinggoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
Creepy!

Ooh, I love that your A to Z is character prompts. I’m teaching a class on character this week, so I have a feeling I’ll be back to seek inspiration.

OOH! Zombies!!! Yeah I watch too much horror lol! Zombies are both incredibly scary and exciting. Or maybe I’m just weird. I am a Walking Dead Fan after all lol!! #anythinggoes

There’s nothing wrong with weird!
