The Blogger’s Corner series is an interview series featuring advice and experience from bloggers whose blogs are older than six months.
If you would like to take part, you can find all of the details here.
This week, we have the lovely Becky from Educating Roversi.
1 Introduce yourself
Hello! I’m Becky Roversi. I’m 33 and a mummy to two gorgeous children: Little L, aged 3yo and Spud, aged 7 weeks old. I’m a wife, teacher, blogger, stationery addict and Robbie Williams obsessed.
2 Tell us a little bit about your blog
My blog ‘Educating Roversi’ originally began when I was on maternity leave with my son. It started for the same reason I hear a lot of mummy bloggers begin, because I needed something creative to do. It began as a mix of parent life and teacher life and still is, with posts about pregnancy, days out, teacher life and reviews.
3 What can your readers learn from your blog?
My first reaction to this question was “Pah! Not a lot!” but actually when I think about it, I’ve sent other mums/bloggers my posts on twitter when they’ve been asking about getting rid of the dummy or recommendations on days out.
With that in mind, I guess if one of my posts helps someone in some way, whether it be inspiring them for a nice family outing or ideas on potty training, I’m happy.
4 What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
It’s my escapism. When I think of a topic for a post, I got lost in writing it, creating the header and pinterest and everything else that goes with it. It’s a little bit of ‘me time’ and I love what follows it – promoting the post, reading peoples comments and interacting with people.
5 And your least favourite thing about blogging?
The data side of it. I’ve decided this year that I’m going to track my data more and try and gain more followers/likes on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram but it’s complicated – algorithms etc. that I have no clue about. I’m trying to teach myself, slowly.
6 Tell us one random fact about you
I once did a sky dive from 15,000 feet. I raised over £700 for a performance competition my students were involved in that I co-ran at school. I’m terrified of heights so it took a lot for me to do it. I’m proud I did it but I won’t do it again.
7 If you could only blog about one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
My kids – I could talk about them forever, they provide me with so much love, laughter and frustration that there is always something to write about. Failing that, if someone wants to pay me to review luxurious hotels in hot countries, I’d be more than happy with that.
8 What was the hardest part of starting your blog and why?
Thinking of a name. I struggled with a unique name that I actually liked. Originally I was going to call it ‘Becky, Bump and Beyond’ but then ‘Educating Roversi’ popped into my head one day and I liked that it referenced the teacher side of me too.
9 If you could give new bloggers one piece of advice, what would it be?
Don’t underestimate how much time it takes to get a blog going and sustain it. It’s something I struggle with which is why my blog isn’t as consistent as it could be. It takes so much time to write posts, design the website, build a following, read other blogs and everything else in between. You literally have your phone stuck to your hand every spare minute.
10 Is there anything you know now that you wish you’d known in the beginning?
I wish I’d known more about creating a ‘look’ for your blog. I look back at my early posts that are so basic and, even know, my Instagram has no theme to it like some. I love the beautiful Instagram accounts that look so uniformed and tidy.
11 Do you have any long term goals for your blog?
I never want to see it as a chore, so I do what I can when I want to. I’d like to post more consistently and keep gaining followers/likes. It would be lovely to work with some brands or collaborate with other bloggers.
12 Who’s your blogging hero?
Brummy Mummy of 2. I bloody love her and her love of dressing gowns, mugs and Disney. She’s a lady after my own heart and is hilarious too. If you don’t follow her, you really should. I think I’d be a bit star struck if I ever met her.
13 What’s your favourite social media network and why?
Instagram – because I’m nosy and it gives a great insight into others lives, particularly if they use Instastories. It’s the one I use the most but I’m desperately trying to use Twitter more. Facebook annoys me because it’s so hard to get my page seen.
14 Anything else you want to share with us?
