The Blogger’s Corner series is an interview series featuring advice and experience from bloggers whose blogs are older than six months.
If you would like to take part, you can find all of the details here.
This week, we have the lovely Gemma from Mummy’s Waisted.
1 Introduce yourself
Hi I’m Gemma, I’m a mum of two young children (boy aged 5 and girl aged 2.5), I run Waist Trainer UK and blog as Mummy’s Waisted.
2 Tell us a little bit about your blog
There are two sides to it – the health and fitness side and then the parenting side (Mummy’s Waisted), which is intended to be about my journey to reclaim my wedding day waist size, but invariably family life gets in the way.
3 What can your readers learn from your blog?
On the health and fitness side I aim to promote an impartial and non-judgemental view of waist shaping and health and fitness. I want it to be up to the reader to decide how they want to achieve a slimmer waist, whether that’s ‘cheating’ with shapewear or through a long term diet and exercise plan.
On the parenting side, I’m just very honest and I hope it helps other parents to see that they’re not alone with the challenges of raising children.
4 What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
It gives me an outlet for all of the thoughts running around my head. I’ve always had strong opinions and blogging allows me to ‘let it out’ rather than it festering. I do get my husband to proof read for me, in case the post needs censoring.
5 And your least favourite thing about blogging?
I’m new to blogging so I still feel nervous about bearing my soul to the world (and people I know judging me on it). My confidence is growing with every post though.
6 Tell us one random fact about you
I have a heart shaped uterus – if that’s too random, I don’t have a middle name and I’m a big fan of grunge rock music (Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana etc.); I went to five gigs whilst pregnant with my son.
7 If you could only blog about one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Celebrity health, fitness and food trends tested out in real life. Sadly, my children are growing up fast and I don’t think they’ll appreciate mum spilling their secrets for much longer.
8 What was the hardest part of starting your blog and why?
Originally I thought that I wouldn’t be any good at writing, I’ve never been able to waffle so I never imagined getting over 300 words, let alone 500. Once I got going though, I couldn’t stop.
9 If you could give new bloggers one piece of advice, what would it be?
Be realistic, have a look at the wealth of other blogs out there. It’s disheartening that we can’t all be big successes straight away, but there are other benefits of blogging if you can devote time to it.
10 Is there anything you know now that you wish you’d known in the beginning?
To focus on one small element and don’t try to fit lots of concepts into one post, otherwise you’ll run out of content quickly.
11 Do you have any long term goals for your blog?
I would like to be able to grow it and post about wellbeing as well as health and fitness, bringing in lots of different aspects.
12 Who’s your blogging hero?
The Unmumsy Mum. Back when my children were new borns it was a great source of reassurance that my feelings were normal (i.e. we can’t all be the perfect Pinterest super mum).
13 What’s your favourite social media network and why?
Facebook for friendly blogging help, and Twitter for ease of use.
14 Anything else you want to share with us?
I’ve been overwhelmed how friendly and helpful other bloggers are, there’s so much content out there with tips and tricks for bloggers. It’s really worth reading through some articles before you start, both so you know what you’re letting yourself in for and to get yourself on the right path straight off.
15 Where can we find you? (blog link and links to any social media)
My blog, Twitter and Facebook.
Nancy Baten
So nice to meet other bloggers! Thank you!
