The Blogger’s Corner series is an interview series featuring advice and experience from bloggers whose blogs are older than six months.
If you would like to take part, you can find all of the details here.
This week, we have the lovely Devishobha from Kidskintha.
1 Introduce yourself
My name is Devishobha and I am the founder of the Kidskintha blog- a parenting blog with focus on the emotional health of both parents and children- hence the tagline, ‘Raising Parents, Raising Kids.’
2 Tell us a little bit about your blog
I started Kidskintha as a way to journal daily, commonplace conversations that I had with my children, because I found them really funny and amusing. They resonated so much with other moms that a lot of them came back to me with their own funny experiences with their kids.
The name “Kidskintha” came about as an adaptation of the magical garden called “Kishkindha”- a happy garden that features in the Indian Epic Ramayana. The epic tells the story of the hero Rama, often seen as the perfect human being (hence, a God, who is on a mission to find his lost wife abducted by the villain. Kishkintha is the garden in which the monkey-men(called Vanaras) celebrate their success of finding Rama’s wife, with joy and complete abandon.
My vision is for our children to be able to express themselves as freely as that.
3 What can your readers learn from your blog?
My blog covers a lot of topics on contemporary child raising. I bring research in the child development field to everyday parenting.
Today we only have each other to draw support from, since we live in a world with challenges that didn’t exist earlier, which makes the essence of community even more important.
Our parents didn’t have to deal with cyberbullying, or growing up in a world of distractions or filtered lives on social media. It was really heartening when we won the “Most Loved Blogs of 2017” award by Healthline, USA for our work on emotional health.
4 What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
I like the fact that I can open conversations on so many things that several of us think and feel in our own private worlds, but never really talk about.
5 And your least favourite thing about blogging?
Having to track page views and keywords etc.
6 Tell us one random fact about you.
I am not exactly an extrovert and I am fairly shy in public, but I am really goofy with my family.
7 If you could only blog about one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
About my country, India, because I am pretty sure I will have enough interesting things to last my entire lifetime and more. And of course, children.
8 What was the hardest part of starting your blog and why?
It wasn’t that hard at all. But, I have to admit, I don’t like the technicalities of it. I would like to simply write and be done with it.
9 If you could give new bloggers one piece of advice, what would it be?
Write about anything, but do put in your voice in it. Also, spellcheck. It’s annoying to read something that’s badly edited, even if the ideas are good.
10 Is there anything you know now that you wish you’d known in the beginning?
Yes, I didn’t know that blogging was such a big deal. In the early days, I barely even sent it out to my own family. I now know that promoting is a very important thing and there is no shame in it.
11 Do you have any long term goals for your blog?
Yes- I would like to see Kidskintha recognized as an authentic platform sparking the most difficult conversations around parenting. My vision is to grow it as a place where real issues get the spotlight they deserve and find answers as a community.
Currently, I am writing my first book on parenting which blends my own experiences coupled with scientific research and child psychology.
12 Who is your blogging hero?
Rita Templeton. She’s blogs on her life with her four boys at Fighting Off Frumpy, and is so funny. She wrote about her weight loss and transformation journey and it was so inspiring.
13 What’s your favourite social media network and why?
For my niche, Facebook works best because so many moms are on the platform, not to mention that they are plenty of active groups that make great support communities.
14 Where can we find you? (blog link and links to any social media)
My blog, Facebook and Twitter.
