It seems a little bit early to be thinking about Christmas already doesn’t it? Well I have to admit it does, but if you want to make some extra money for Christmas, then starting now gives you the best chance of having a decent amount by December. And think about how much less stressful Christmas will be with a pot of money to spend without dipping into your wages at all.
Here are five easy things to do right now to start making extra money:
Sell Some Unwanted Items
This one sounds kind of obvious, but how often do you have a declutter and end up either throwing items away or giving them away just to get rid of them? If you’re willing to accept that you will have a little bit of extra clutter somewhere in your home for a few months, then this one is a great way to make some extra money.
List designer clothes and any collectors items on eBay, new stuff that you bought on a whim and don’t want or need on Amazon and consider having a yard or car boot sale for the bits and bobs. For furniture and electrical appliances, try some local second hand shops or try an auction house. And don’t forget to sort through your garage – there may be tools you don’t use anymore, and you could even sell an old car you don’t use anymore.
Make Something to Sell
This of course depends on where your skills lies, but the opportunities are pretty much unlimited here. You could write an eBook or a course, make some printables or fact sheets, sell ad space on your website, sew, knit or crochet something, do some cake decorating etc, make some jewellery, make some stock graphics etc.
You can then sell your products on your blog or website, Etsy, eBay, Amazon or Barnes and Noble to name a few.
Dedicate One Hour a Day to Making Some Extra Money
Forget time sucks like survey sites and receipt scanning sites and think about something you can do to make some real money. You’ll be lucky to make £2 in an hour on a survey site.
Do some freelance writing or editing, do some VA work, pitch to brands you like to write a sponsored post on your blog or to take a picture for Instagram, ask your boss for an extra shift each week or do some gardening, car washing or DIY jobs for friends and neighbours.
I know we’re all pushed for time, but an hour a day isn’t that hard to find if you really put your mind to it.
Start a Change Jar
Commit to putting a set amount in the charge each week, even if it’s just £5. And then whenever you’ve been out and have change in your purse, drop the change in the jar. You’d be surprised how quickly it mounts up. Last year I started my jar in February and put £10 a week in plus my loose change, and by the end of the year, I had almost £1400 saved up. And the best part is, you really don’t miss the loose change you put in.
I tend to get one of those tins that you have to open using a tin opener. It makes me less tempted to dip into it if I know I am breaking the seal rather than just “borrowing” some of it. You can get them in most pound shops.
Collect Vouchers and Enter Competitions
If you spot any vouchers for money off the things you buy anyway (otherwise it’s a false economy) make use of them. If they are valid long enough, keep them for your Christmas shop. If they aren’t, use them now and put the money you saved into your change jar.
Entering competitions probably won’t make a huge difference unless you’re extremely lucky, but entering competitions on blogs and social media only takes a couple of minutes and you could end up winning some of your Christmas presents.

I use cashback apps that give me money back when I scan my receipts. I save all those up and cash them in for Christmas. #bloggerclubuk

I start buying stocking fillers and food which has long dates each week from September, especially if they are on sale. That way when it gets nearer to Christmas I do not have so much to pay out for. #bloggerclubuk
