Now summer is well and truly here and the barbecue is being fired up, what better accompaniment to that than a nice, refreshing cocktail.
Below you will find the recipe for a Green Meadow, a sweet but refreshing drink that is perfect for those long summer evenings. You’ll also find a variation for a fun layered shot too.
Green Meadow Cocktail
You Will Need:
- 25ml of Midori
- 50ml of rum (I like Captain Morgan rum but any will work)
- 150ml lemonade
- Crushed ice
- A lime
- Sherbet
- 300ml sized glass
What to Do
1 Cut a slice of lime to decorate the glass with and set it to one side. Squeeze the rest of the lime and put the juice on a shallow saucer or plate. Spread the sherbet out on a similar plate or saucer.
2 Dip the rim of the glass into the lime juice and then press it firmly into the sherbet.
3 Half fill the glass with crushed ice.
4 Mix the rum and Midori together and pour over the ice.
5 Add the lemonade (you can add more or less depending on how strong you want your drink to taste).
6 Take the lime slice and press each side firmly into the sherbet and add to the rim of the glass.
7 Serve and enjoy.
Green Meadow Shooter
This technique can take a few practice runs to get used to, but once you get used to it, you can make some really fun looking drinks.
You Will Need
- 5ml Grenadine
- 10ml Midori
- 10ml rum
- 35ml Shot glass
- Spoon – any spoon will work but a bar spoon or latte spoon works best as it’s easier to handle
What to Do
1 Pour the Grenadine into the bottom of the glass ensuring it covers the full base.
2 Take the spoon and slowly pour the Midori into the glass over the bowl of the spoon so that it floats on top of the Grenadine.
3 Wash and dry the spoon.
4 Pour the rum very slowly over the bowl of the spoon so that it floats on top of the Midori.
5 Serve and enjoy.

Disclaimer: The photos on the feature image in this post aren’t of the actual drink you are making because when I came to make it, I found out I had none of the ingredients except the lemonade (oops). This is the one occasion where I miss working in a bar – I always used to take photos for cocktails at work where I had everything to hand.
Always drink responsibly.
