You might remember that in March I shared the top five books I had read so far in 2018 (if you haven’t seen it yet, you can find it here – go ahead, I’ll wait).
Today, I’m sharing the top five books (in no particular order) I’ve read between that post and now.
Purple Hearts by Michael Grant
“Could women fight? Stupid question. Women don’t stop being women and men don’t stop being men. We become an entirely new creature: the combat soldier. And we are none of us, men or women, the people we started out as.”
Purple Hearts is the final book in the Front Lines trilogy. The books are a reimagining of the second world war with women soldiers on the front lines. I generally don’t read war type books, but I’m a big fan of Michael Grant so I gave them a go and I loved them.
You can grab book one, Front Lines, here, book two, Silver Stars, here and book three, Purple Hearts, here and you can find my review of Front Lines here.
The Good Mother by Karen Osman
“Three women – all with secrets. Secrets that can no longer be ignored…”
The Good Mother tells the stories of Catherine, Kate and Alison. My review will be coming at the end of the month, so if you want to know more, you’ll have to come back then!

The Unusual Possession of Alastair Stubb by David John Griffin
“Do you dare meet the Stubbs?”
This book is very different to any possession type stories I’ve read before, so you’re expecting an exorcist type of book then this probably isn’t for you, but the creepy setting and downright weird characters (seriously, there is no one normal in this book) make for a good read.

Four by Veronica Roth
“Two years before Beatrice Prior makes her choice, the sixteen year old of Abnegation’s faction leader does the same.”
Four is the fourth book set in the world of the Divergent trilogy (a lot of people refer to it as the “fourth book of the trilogy” but that bothers me for obvious reasons). This book takes us back to Four’s choosing ceremony and initiation and retells some favourite Divergent scenes from his point of view. It’s a good way to get a further insight into his character. If you’re a fan of the original trilogy, this book will make you really think about what you thought you knew about Four.

Dying for Christmas by Tammy Cohen
“For some, Christmas can be murder…”
I’ve read this book before, but I really wanted to reread it, and reading it again knowing about the twist that’s coming made it a very different experience. It’s a brilliant book with an amazing twist that is definitely worth at least one read, but the second read is good too, because you spot little things you missed when you didn’t know what was coming.
You can grab your copy of Dying for Christmas here and you can read my review of it here.
Have you read any of these books and if so, did you enjoy them? What’s been your favourite book so far this year? Let me know in the comments 🙂
