I love all of the Adele Parks books I’ve read and I Invited Her In is no exception. She just has a way of pulling me in from the first page and not letting go.
Blurb from The Back Cover
Imagine the worst thing a friend could ever do.
This is worse.
When Mel receives an unexpected email from her oldest friend Abi, it brings back memories she thought she had buried forever. Their friendship belonged in the past. To those carefree days at university.
But Abi is in trouble and needs Mel’s help, and she wants a place to stay. Just for a few days, while she sorts things out. It’s the least Mel can do.
After all, friends look out for each other don’t they?
My Thoughts on The Book
Adele Parks has a knack of writing characters I don’t really like, and still making me care enough about their fates to want to read their stories, and she really has out done herself with Mel and Abi. Neither of these women are particularly likeable – well I guess Mel is it at first, but it’s not long until you want to scream in her face and make her see what’s in front of her – and their relationship is co-dependant and as toxic as they come. But you keep turning the pages, needing to know how it all turns out for them all the same.
There are plenty of twists and turns, and the fact we see them coming before the characters in most instances only makes this book better and more likely to make you want to scream at the characters. It’s as if each of them lives in their own little bubble and has no real clue about what’s going on, which makes the book so gripping. You keep turning the pages thinking no, surely they’ll see it now (I know that’s a big vague but I don’t want to give any spoilers and you’ll understand when you read the book).
Conclusion and Rating
You know when you’re reading a book and you don’t want to put it down even though you have a thousand and one things you need to do? That’s this book. 5/5.

My first one of hers was A stranger In My Home, and that didn’t go the way I expected. The twists and turns had me hooked and she’s been one of my faves ever since.

That’s really interesting as I tend to give up on books when I don’t like or root for one character or another. I’ll have to take look at her books! xx

I usually do too, but she has a knack of pulling you in so much you care about the outcome either way.
